    Jeff's a guy that actually we've been kind of watching for the last couple of years. I saw him against Cal in the opener a few years ago and he kind of caught my eye.     I thought Jim (Tressel's) answer was good -- that the only thing for sure he knows about who will start at quarterback is that Vince Young will play for us. (Not knowing) makes it very difficult for us. It's like preparing for another season opener.


    Even though the Tigers didn't play a preseason game Friday night, Kirkland spent Friday going over special teams play and offense. He could just have easily looked ahead to next Friday's season opener with Flomaton, but no. These past few weeks, we've worked on McKenzie, ... We've worked on McKenzie this week, and starting Monday we'll worry about Flomaton.

    This is a big game. Division games to me are the most important. Those division games, you've got to get one back just to get to even. We beat Carolina (in the opener). And it will be good if we can stay here and win this. Then we still have Tampa twice and Atlanta and Carolina again. So the games that we need to win are ahead of us.

    We had the attitude that we were going to score a lot more goals in the opener, and maybe that wasn't the best thing to do. We need to get back to doing all the little things right 100 percent of the time. Once we do that, our offense will make us a potent team.
