Drew Brees Quotes (84 Quotes)

It was disappointing to have that happen, because I think that was maybe the writing on the wall that says this is my last year in San Diego, ... This is the last year on my contract, and they're going to pay this guy 15 million or whatever it is that the fourth pick in the draft gets, so I know what that means.

I felt like we had the opportunity to do something special. I got the feeling that these guys really wanted me here. I think we've got a tremendous opportunity to win, and win very quickly. I know this town is craving a winner and we're going to get one.

We did the 1972 Dolphins a big favor. But why Two weeks ago, the 2005 Dolphins handed us a home defeat, which might end up costing us a spot in the playoffs. It would have been sweet revenge on the Dolphins had we lost to the Colts. With all this talk of whether or not the Colts should have rested their starters, wouldn't it have been funny if we had rested ours That would have been hilarious.

It was a roller-coaster ride, ... to come on the road and play as inconsistently as we did, but then just to find a way at the end. It wasn't pretty, but we've found ourselves on the other side of these quite a few times in the past.

I don't think we're in a situation at all where anybody's overreacting here. I mean, obviously 2-3 is not where we thought we'd be at this point in the season, especially since I feel like we have a really good team and I feel like we're better than we were last year, ... But I think our attitude is and the way we look at it is, if we win this game we're sitting at 3-3, which is exactly where we were sitting at this time last year.

I'm not just trying to be a good game manager I'm trying to be great,

That's only going to make us better. Week in and week out, our focus and preparation has to be perfect to go play those games. I think we're definitely up to the challenge. A lot of those teams are teams that are perennially in the playoffs. Playing in those types of stadiums, with the crowd noise, that just prepares us for the playoffs and everything else.

I've got big plans for (today). I'm going over to the facility, talking with the coaches a little bit, talking a little football. It's just a time to get to know each other. It's wild. I'm having fun with the whole process, but it's a little stressful at the same time.

The guy is super athletic. Handing the ball off to him in nine- and 10-man fronts, when you bottle him up like that, that's hard for anybody. But you get him out in space, good luck tackling him, and especially on turf.

We were tying to go down and get points and pad that lead, but they did a good job getting back into the game. But our defense did a heck of a job holding them.

I played with Rodney, I know what a leader he is, ... It's not only the physical things he does. It's the leadership, the mental toughness, what he imparts to his teammates. I know they've been able to put in a lot of subs over the years and not miss anything, but a player like Rodney is something special.

I would assume it would be pretty soon, obviously, because they probably want to get it done as soon as possible. With free agency coming up in March, the franchise-tag deadline in late February, I'm sure that that's something that's probably a big priority.

I do. I think that at times we haven't been as consistent as we need to be. Hence, the fact we're not going to the playoffs. But I do feel when we're out there playing our best, our best this year is better than it was last year.

To have a better road record with all the places we played is ridiculous.

The whole team has tried to do too much. That's what happens sometimes when you have success. You feel like you just need to do better than better. At times, better is good enough to win. I think you can try too hard.

Obviously if you watch the same highlights as I did, he's a pretty incredible athlete. He makes a lot of big plays. I think a lot of people think they can turn him into a pretty good, consistent passing quarterback as well as running.

The more time we have together the more you get that ESP deal going,

You always expect to have success, but, honestly, we knew this (Jets) defense was very good and we had a chance to score on our first six possessions today.

I think that being in New York and having that rookie year, he's been through a lot in a short time, and he's learned ways to handle it.

We've already got things lined up and we'll be rocking and rolling the minute the clock strikes midnight. I understand everyone has their concerns about the shoulder. But I invite anybody to come here and look me in the eye and tell me I'm not going to come back from this.

We're probably just flying under the radar, just going out and taking care of our business. And all that stuff takes care of itself when the time comes. We're a team that if we keep going at the rate we're going, yes, we'll reach that level.

Now we're getting recognized and (some of our) games are in prime time. People see him and he's on the cover of video games. So people start to notice.

He seems to be a fan favorite, and he's fun to watch. Hopefully we'll see him scurrying down the field on special teams and when he's called on in the offense.

Obviously if Gates turns out missing the first game because of this, that's disappointing for everyone in this locker room because he is big part of our team and we don't want to see that happen.

It's a business. You realize that very early on. Hey, they made a business decision. I'm not complaining about his salary this season, trust me. Of course, for me, the big thing is the commitment 'Hey, you're our guy. We want you long term.' And no, I haven't gotten that.

This is great. This gives the fans the opportunity to see the makings of this team. And I feel we have an opportunity to help people who lost their homes or were forced from their homes because of Katrina. They need to be uplifted, and we have the opportunity to do that.

I couldn't say that was our motivation, but obviously we all knew about it. But Kansas City's 8-4 now, and we've got to go there. So there are plenty of tough tests ahead.

They guess right at times and we put ourselves in bad situations with second-and-longs and third-and-longs. We had guys coming through the line (unabated). LT got hit in the backfield a couple of times.

We talked about it all week, how this could be the game that we throw it 50 times, and I think we almost did,

Not only is he good on grass, but you put him on turf, and he's even better, because he was making guys miss out there and it wasn't even funny. I got to see it firsthand, best seat in the house.

And then obviously our team, we had better people, high-character guys, good leadership. It's just one of those things. In '03, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. And then last year, everything that could have gone right went right. We were not a 4-12 team in '03, even though our record showed that. We were better than that. Just due to circumstances, that's the way we finished. We all got stronger through that experience. I don't think we could have accomplished what we did last year if we hadn't gone through that in '03.

Definitely, it's best for both of us. Obviously, I'm not surprised by anything that happens any more. I've made it known I want to be here and, hopefully, that will happen. I'd like to say if it were up to me, they'd sign me long term and I'd be the guy here for my whole career. . . . You win football games and everything takes care of itself.

Definitely by training camp I'll be out there getting ready to have a great season. No concern whatsoever.

This entire program, from stock market investing to business ethics, has been awesome. I think it's important to step away from football and explore other interests, whatever they may be. For me, I have a strong interest in business, and this has truly exceeded my expectations.

He is aggressive and he has a nose for the end zone, ... Giving the ball to him is our best bet.

I knew they were gonna bring somebody in, whether it be a draft pick or a free agent. But in my mind I was the only guy here, ... Every day I competed against myself. I didn't compete against the guy next to me.

It's my job to get us in good plays, or more importantly, out of bad plays. That's what I did.

We've used the word Superman without the cape. We've used a lot of terms to describe LT. I just think he never ceases to amaze.

I was trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. But when you're with Mayor Flutie, it's pretty much impossible. They love the guy there.

That's all right. He made some nice grabs for me. Can't complain. What is it, maybe his second drop of the season I'll let it slide. Just this time.

I think it's still at the point of learning how to finish games. I feel like last year we did a good job of it. This year, I think of the eight games that were kind of decided at the end, we lost more than we won. Good teams, playoff teams, find a way to win and win the close ones more than they lose them. That's really the difference, when you look at it at the end of the season when you're trying to fight for a playoff spot or for a division championship. Unfortunately, we were on the losing end of those. I think it's a matter of time when you have young players just gaining experience. You learn how to win.

They were a really young defense last year. They're still young but very talented, and (they) just continue to get more and more experience every time they're (on the field) together.

They had a lot of guys sitting on the goal line who thought I was going to run. Keenan slipped behind the defense and I was able to drop it off over the top to him.

In the celebration in the end zone I said, 'Superman, you can do it all. He can do a lot of things. Obviously, he had a big game today.

I think it's pretty obvious by the one offer they gave me and their reluctance to move beyond that point. Maybe I'd have the opportunity to stay there and win my job back once again. But since I kind of know where everybody stands in the organization and the people who are making the decisions, I don't think so.

This whole thing with San Diego, when I went into the off-season, I thought for sure I'd still end up with the Chargers. I think that was a shocker for everybody, including myself. Even up to recently, I thought something was going to happen.

I'm shaking, I'm getting a little scared. He has the best quarterback rating in the history of the game right now. I don't know if we should let him throw anymore.

You still see the city is very alive and you've got a lot of great citizens of New Orleans committed to rebuilding this city that are just so excited about Saints football. In times of tragedy, in times like this, people look to whatever they can to try to lift their spirits and I think for a lot of people that is Saints football. ...
