    The point I want to make with Paul Wilson is we want him to be ready for the first game. But we're not going to put pressure on him.

    With the way Adam Dunn, Ken Griffey Jr. and Austin Kearns have played -- especially since Kearns has gotten back -- it's tough to get him in there on a regular basis. I don't know if he does, but it seems like he enjoys hitting in this ballpark. I wouldn't blame him. He's done a great job in the opportunities he's had.

    He was a great, great player. Even as a visiting coach, it was always nice to see him, because he had a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy for the game, and it was a pleasure to be around him.

    He's going to throw one more time to hitters before he gets in there.

    We're trying to get the middle infielders involved.

    We had other pitchers ahead of him (on the depth chart). Bona fide major-league pitchers have to be consistent. At times, Hudson was very, very good. At times he was very, very bad. What separates everybody is consistency.

    I don't know if he does, but it seems like he enjoys hitting in this ballpark, ... And I wouldn't blame him.

    Whether you're happy or unhappy, you've got to go out and perform no matter what's going on. That's what separates pros from the other guys. It's easier to play when everything in your life is going well.

    Tough day. I know we have some deficiencies, but we're much better than we played today.

    Eddie's working hard, ... He hasn't been as consistent as we'd like, but he's had big hits for us.

    Everybody in baseball has the idea that this guy is going to have a big year. If I was Austin, I wouldn't like hearing my name brought up about being traded. But the good thing about it is it means a lot of people in baseball like him. That part of it should be flattering.

    I know he can sit in that clubhouse for a week, then give us a good at-bat. As far as knowing his role and staying ready, he's outstanding.

    Just command. He's been able to keep the ball down consistently.

    If you had seen the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field the last three days, you'd think we got some pretty good pitching over there, too. Our starters are doing very well for us and giving us a chance to win some games and match up at the end a little bit.

    He's a great competitor. He's fearless. He can throw any pitch for a strike at any count. He doesn't give in to guys.

    You don't worry about it. Somewhere down the line, left-handers are going to pitch back to back.

    We had a couple of at bats that could have turned the game around, but (Lidle) didn't give in.

    We think Homer can be a great pitcher. Part of that process includes time in the minor leagues. Homer understands that.
