He has to continue to get over the little hurdles that are going to make him a big-league pitcher. In his case, it is realizing the importance of location and trusting his sinker in the strike zone.

I felt good. I definitely felt better than my last two starts mechanically. My sinker was better. My cutter was better. My command was better. What allowed me to finish the game was taking the ninth like it was the first. If you rush through the ninth trying to get outs, you're not going to complete that game.
I was able to keep my sinker - which is my best pitch - down all day. I got ahead in counts, which allowed me to pound the zone. It was my best performance of the year.
My changeup, curve and sinker were good. I'm just waiting on the fastball. I need more velocity and I know it's going to come. After I take time off and start throwing again, there's a period when you work through the shoulder soreness. I'm at that point now. I'm right on schedule for the Classic. The fastball should be there for me in Puerto Rico.
When people see him pitch for the first time, they see someone with average stuff, average sinker, average change, average breaking ball,
He did not have a sinker when we first signed him. Ninety percent of the pitchers in the Pacific Rim are told not to throw the sinker. From Little League to college, they want four-seam fastballs, because the big deal over there is throwing strikes. In order to get some kind of movement, most of them use a splitter.
The guy won 21 games for a reason. He was pretty good, he had a good sinker, fastball and curveball and he threw them all for strikes and I think that was the key. We got down five runs, but we didn't give up. We never give up, and that's something this team has done all year.
I just didn't have command. I usually usemy sinker as my out-pitch and tonight I couldn't throw it where and when I wanted to.
I missed my last start, so it took me a little while to find that comfort zone. I had a pretty good sinker tonight.
I went after them with my sinker and mixed in some sliders and changeups. I kept them off balance.
My whole concentration on the game is affected by a pitch that got away. You know, that looks so terrible. The guy is a great pro. I just talked to Julian in there for a long time. Nothing against him, as soon as he fell out of his delivery...the ball has to get down. He's a sinker ball pitcher. That incident screws up the whole night for me.
Lopez changes speeds and throws that little two-seamer sinker. From my vantage point, watching on TV, it appeared he kept us off-balance.
Mine is a power sinker. Mine seems more like a fastball it has more four-seam action. It stays on a straight plane until it gets closer to the plate.
I definitely felt better than I felt the last couple of starts, mechanically, ... I felt like I was getting through the ball a lot better. My sinker was better, my cutter was better and my command was better.
His sinker today was ridiculous. Some days, he's left it over the plate of late and gotten a few of them hit. He was hitting the corners all day and keeping them off balance. He threw a heck of a game.
I had command of my sinker, command of my cutter, and command of my breaking ball, and I was able to throw it when I wanted to throw it and keep them off-balance all night,
