    J.K. Rowling said Bellatrix's role was going to be significant in the last one, when I showed some reluctance in playing a tiny bit part. Up front, they said, 'You're very significant in the last one.' But significant could mean a lot of things. That could just mean a significant plot point. Doesn't necessarily equal big part.


    First, I felt just shock, and then I felt there's no way, just no way, Dumbledore couldn't be dead, ... So I thought, 'What's the trick' but unfortunately J.K. Rowling doesn't do that. She's writing about war and in war people die. They are not protected by their office and the esteem in which they are held. She wouldn't compromise that idea by easily bringing him back.

    People always tell me I'm nothing like my character. Well, hopefully not! He's a character who's very defined. He was purposefully written by Jo Rowling as very one-dimensional in the first few books, because you're supposed to hate him.

    Three children have become adults since a phone call with Jo Rowling, containing one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume, and that even though only three of the books were out at that time, she held the entire massive but delicate narrative in the surest of hands.

    That's the final nail in the last bastion of British cinema. Someone should say stop. If JK Rowling said 'No, it has to be made in the UK,' surely someone would listen.

    I think I'll have complex feelings about the last book, ... It's clearly the series that I will be best known for. But it won't be, it's not the end of my career. It's not the last thing J.K. Rowling will write either, and my relationship with her will continue.


    J.K. Rowling called in May to invite me to her house and interview her on the day of the new book's release, ... I had to stay up all night to read through the entire book in time for the interview.
