Quotes about goal-line (13 Quotes)

Ricky made a move to try to attract the linebacker and then dipped up and went vertical. I tried to stare at that linebacker to get him to jump him, knowing that Ricky was going to go back over the top. We work that play with Ricky a lot. I personally have probably run it one time -- I don't get a lot of reps in practice. But that's kind of been one of our staple plays down in the goal-line area.

We have some really amazing runners - girls who, once they get going, can just blow by people, and that will help us a lot against Ohio State. But we've also been working all year on defense, and we've gotten really good at it. Our goal-line defense was really good all year, better than I've seen it since I've been here.

There's no artificial goal-line for him right now. I just want him to get well because when he gets well, I want him to stay well and I don't want him to push it.

Harrington gave us a lot of scares. He likes to cut back and he's low to the ground. We bent a few times but we didn't break, and we had a couple of goal-line stands inside the 15 that were good.

I thought it was over when we had the ball at the 2-yard line. Didn't you Of course, I thought it was over. Everyone did. Then a guy who very rarely fumbles fumbled, and Ben did a heck of a job to tackle the guy. He saved our year. It was a great play. When you're in your goal-line offense, you have all big guys out there and the only guy with any speed is the quarterback.

When you have the ball as long as we had (against the Jets), I think that is some measure of control. But we'd like to have more rushing yards for the number of attempts. There's no question about that. There were some positive things in the game about our running game. There are certainly a lot of things that we can work on. We'd like to be more consistent and gain a few more yards. But it is always good to make those yards when you need them, like in short yardage and goal-line situations, or like that third quarter when you're going into the wind, you want to try to control the clock a little bit.

Hollis is still playing the run well. He's not a pass-rusher. We know that. He's kind of our role player, used in short-yardage, goal-line and other run situations, and he's done well. He lacks that great pass-rush ability. But he's played consistently.

We'll begin to work him into the mix. There are certain situations that we have used him in that's been short-yardage and goal-line. We've also put him in there for a couple of normal-down runs in situations as well, so we'll continue to use all of our backs and utilize them to the best of their abilities.

I liked the way our offense took the ball down the field, but we didn't get in, so we have to invest a lot of time in our goal-line work. We're experimenting with some new people, so I think we'll benefit from that.

That kept the momentum in our favor. That was a great goal-line stand by our kids. We almost had one like that against Erie McDowell in a 35-32 loss but we gave up a touchdown on fourth and 1.
