    They talk about those All-Star Games being exhibition affairs, and maybe they are, but I've seen very few players in my life who didn't want to win, no matter whom they were playing or what for.

    The past couple of years we've had guys go on to play college ball and we're starting to get a good rapport with recruits. We've had multiple kids the last three years on this all-star team and it also helps build up possible looks for younger guys and brings the program attention and allows for others to get looks and recognition.

    One of the things I really do believe is - and it would've affected our two guys this year, so it wouldn't have been good - I don't believe anybody on sub-.500 teams should be in the All-Star game. It should be all a reward for winning. Now that would affect our guys which, I'm glad no one took my advice for this year.

    It's every player's personal goal, to make the All-Star team. It's a personal accomplishment guys want to make to get a chance to participate against the elite players. Every player in this league wants to be there.

    My first year of pro ball I played in the Northwest league and made the all-star team, and the next year I played I led the team in hitting and was third or fifth in the league.


    You always study the players you go against. You try and stay ahead of it. Those guys are just too good to just show up on Sunday and think you're going to do well. Every week it seems like there's an all-star out there - to me, anyway. Every week is a rodeo. You just hope for the best.



    I'm going to try to enjoy the All-Star break, hope my players reflect on what happened the first half of the season, come back with a different attitude, try to find our solution on how to win it.
