Under my cherry-tree when work is done
I smoke an’ watch lile birds. They have begun
To build again: an’ as I see nests grow
I think. By Gow! birds ken mair nor we know;
Best builders ‘mang us would be at a loss
If asked to build wi’ nobbut twigs an’ moss.
No eight-hours day for them! Nay, you can hark
Them singin’ at their work fra’ morn till dark;
Such merry songs, far sweeter nor a band.
They do so well I’d like to lend a hand!
