We celebrate another turn
another year of her life
a year closer
to more meaningful milestones
But even here, the cusp,
a moment of closure,
an ending of elementary school.
No longer a little girl,
not yet a teen, in that awkward
in between age, eleven today
the beginning of the slow two-year march
inexorably, to thirteen.
