Christ met, we meet
Satan in the wild
vivid images, words hard to hear
of the tempting of Christ
of the carnage of massacre
of dark nights,
evil walking the earth
The connection of the story
of Christ’s baptism, of his trials
meeting Satan in the wild;
but watched over by angels
assisting him, to prepare him
his ministry to come
Our baptism, into the waters
dying into the waters
as he did, in the Jordan
rising with him, transformed
ready to face the world
Our lives protected, guided
by angels, by the Spirit living within
a ministry unfinished
left for you and for me
to spread the good news
to bring light, living waters
into the wild, into the darkness
Christ’s good news for all
