Vital spark of heav'nly flame Quit, oh quit, this mortal frame Trembling, hoping, ling'ring, flying, Oh the pain, the bliss of dying.
Vital spark of heav'nly flame Quit, oh quit, this mortal frame Trembling, hoping, ling'ring, flying, Oh the pain, the bliss of dying.
Fresh blooming hope, gay daughter of the sky!
Hope springs eternal in the human breast:
Man never Is, but always To be blest:
The soul, uneasy and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.
Hope humbly then; with trembling pinions soar;
Wait the great teacher Death; and God adore.
How often hope, despair, resent, regret,
Conceal, disdain--do all things but forget.
Hope travels through, nor quits us when we die.
