Trent Green Quotes (18 Quotes)

The last couple of years we've had to spread it out and throw the ball and try and (to) outscore opponents. But the way our defense played today, creating turnovers, I'll take that anytime.

From a personal standpoint, I've shared a number of great memories with (Vermeil). I've said this on numerous occasions he's been in charge of three organizations as a professional coach in his career and on two of those occasions he chose me to be his starting quarterback. So, I feel a great deal towards him, a great deal of responsibility in St. Louis when I was brought into that situation and he told me what was needed. Even though I wasn't able to carry that over onto the field, I felt good about the direction going into that season. Coming here and having it explained what was expected of me and I tried to do all those things. That's what I told him when he got me to Kansas City.

I don't know how good our chances are. But the fact remains we're still alive. Crazy things happen all the time.

The third preseason game is really kind of the focus point of when you want to hone in on your timing because everybody knows the fourth preseason game is where you're trying to have some success. But your also don't want anyone getting hurt before the opener.

We called more play action with Willie out. That slowed down their rush a little bit. But Black did a good job.

Our biggest thing is we can't fall behind early like we did. We can't become predictable on offense. Where we have had effectiveness over the last four or five years is when we can mix up the run and the pass. When we are effective running the ball then we can get our play-action going. We can get our drop-back going. We keep defenses on their heels and keep them off-balance because they don't know where we're coming.

No one was talking about it on the sidelines, you figured that was the direction it was going. About the middle of the fourth quarter I went up to someone on the sidelines, I heard Pittsburgh was up 14 with only a few minutes to go. I figured it was the way it was going to go.

It was a different kind of pace for this offense, ... With the defense playing the way that it was and with a big lead, it was more of a grind-it-out attitude. That's not something we're accustomed to.

With the quarterback situation like it is right now, we don't know what it's going to be from a backup standpoint. Then we scored on the first drive and were moving the ball and the one bad play. So we said, 'You know what Everything's moving pretty good. Why take any chances' I understand where coach is coming from.

Anytime you're in a game like this and you know it's going to be a grind-it-out, run oriented game, knowing the type of defense that they have and how good they are against the run, obviously give a lot of credit to the offensive line and running back Larry Johnson for that.

It may have been torn since then but recently tore more. We're not really sure but I'm completely fine. I stopped taking blood thinners recently and the doctors said I'll be fine. It was just a freak thing.

He ran such a good route, that when the back fell down I was just trying to put it on him so he could make a play. When a guy runs a route that well and fools a defense so well, it's nice to see.

Nine of the 11 guys have pretty much been together going on four years. I think everybody feels real good where we are, ... I feel good with where the timing is.

I think the first half was a lot more manageable, even though it was raining harder and the wind was blowing harder. But as the field was torn up, with the ball resting in the mud every time you could get the snap, there was pretty much mud kicked on the ball so it made a big difference in the second half.
