I don't know how serious it is. We're still in the midst of it. We're doing some testing and will know more tomorrow afternoon.

We're going to go back to the things that worked the last eight years. No matter what age a person is, he still has to go out and run.

His knee looks good. It has looked good for a while, so we'll see how he comes out of this and we'll get him into a major-league game as soon as we can. We'll watch him, but things are going the way we anticipated. He's got plenty of time to get his innings in between now and Opening Day.

As far as I'm concerned, he's ready. Now we're just double-checking and triple-checking. But this is a weird injury. I'm always going to be a little worried.

He was put on anti-inflammatory medication, and this morning he is much, much, much improved, and in fact probably could play today if this were the regular season.

One day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time. That's how we're going to do it all year. We're not going to try to look too far ahead. Each day he's going to come in and tell us how he's coming along.

He took a swing in BP today and felt a twinge in his left elbow. We're going to evaluate it as the day goes on. We don't really have any more information than that.

For Moises to take himself out the lineup tells you it's a fairly significant injury.

You always look at stuff like that, but that was seven or eight years ago. He's had absolutely no problems with that since. That's pretty much ancient history.

He didn't respond the way we thought he was going to. We gave him a couple of days and we gave him an injection. It didn't make a difference.

There is some inflammation in the muscle and it is his push-off leg, so that's a concern any time for a pitcher, ... We'll know more in the next day or so.

He didn't even want to try another pitch, ... It's similar to last year's injury, but in a different area of the muscle.

His knee has looked good for a while, and things are going the way we anticipated. He has plenty of time to get his innings in before Opening Day.

So we'll go with what he says. If he says he feels it, we'll probably be more conservative.

He's been battling it for a week to 10 days. We don't anticipate it being a big issue. If this was the regular season you wouldn't even know about it. With an off-day and everything, we could afford to give him some rest.

I think he can make it based on what he's done. If he feels comfortable, I feel comfortable.

Moises has a left groin pull, fairly significant. It's not minor. We're listing him as day-to-day because it's almost impossible to know when he'll return. But I can guarantee it's not today or tomorrow.

Ultimately the player makes this decision, to a certain degree,

He threw today in the back field and felt much better than yesterday.

He threw one inning as planned with no difficulty. He also threw off the mound on Saturday with a full bullpen session without any problems. We decided to get him in a Minor League game first, just to make sure, and the knee looked good.

I think we're going to take one day at a time. I think that if he does what we expect him to do this year, no one's going to look back and say whether he missed a spring training game or not.

He said something to me in the dugout and wanted to go back out. It stiffened up out there, and he came in and immediately said he's unable to go. For Moises to take himself out of the lineup, that tells you it's a significant injury right from the beginning.

We're going to be pretty conservative. The worst thing you can do is move too fast and set him back.

Barry Bonds took another step toward his return from knee surgery when he took two rounds of batting practice from coaches on the field in Scottsdale. Head trainer Stan Conte said Bonds swung at 50-to-60 percent of normal intensity. This was all his idea, ... When he left, he had no problems with the knee, but we will evaluate it tomorrow. This does not, in my mind, factor into when he will play in a game, and we do not have a timetable on that.

We're going to play a lot off of what Barry tells us, because he's the only one who knows how his knee is going to feel. It's always going to be a day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to- month thing. You can't help but be pleased that he came here, he did some good stuff, he left, and we'll see how it is tomorrow.

The swelling was almost completely gone. He had full motion and no pain. That's all very, very positive. I really didn't expect it to turn around that quickly.
