    I guess now, if there are people starting tennis now, it's easier because the facilities are improving. But at that time, I mean, I played in clay courts where it was almost, you know, there were almost craters on the court. I twisted my ankle about a dozen times a day.

    I don't believe that when you get on the court you should get surprises. Everyone is beatable I knew I could do it today.

Maybe I can add variation to my game, but I'm going to win matches only when I hit those winners. If I win matches by moon-balling, then I'm not going to satisfy myself the way I played that day.

    My injury happened during the match, ... I went to hit an overhand and it felt like I basically hyper-extended my back. I couldn't really move very well after that, and it felt very stiff.

    I thought I played a good match. I had a solid start to the match in the first set. In the second set, she picked up her game, but I think I played well when it mattered on the important points.

    That's not what I think every time I step on court, that an Indian never did this, an Indian never did that. I'm just there because I just want to be there. I'm happy, I'm starting something. I'm not thinking who did it or who's gonna do it.

    Seeding doesn't count for much once you are out there on court ... Playing a qualifier in the first round is never easy as she has the confidence of already having won three matches in the qualifying draw and is well acquainted with the playing conditions.

    Early in the match there was some initial nervousness but I settled and that's why I seemed to take control in the later stages of the match.

    It's been a phenomenal year. To be honest, I did surprise myself to some extent. I really didn't think it was going to happen so fast.

    It's amazing ... the amount of people that are so proud of you when you go back home, the amount of people that come up to you and say, 'I'm proud to be Indian, you're doing a great job for India. It's just amazing that you can bring so many smiles to so many faces.

    I guess people just have to accept it. That's how I play. I'm going to maybe have 50 unforced errors one day, but I'm going to also have 50 winners that day.

    You really have to keep moving, ... because you have no idea till the last second where the ball is going to go. Toss is all over the place on the serve. I'm just happy I came through because I guess it's just giving me more and more practice for the bigger matches I'm hopefully going to play.
