    We had the right guys out there today. Tomorrow against Duquesne it might be something different.

    We've played great defense, then we've fallen apart at times. We've pitched well, but then in crunch times, we haven't. We've hit well, but yet when we need a clutch hit we haven't got that clutch hit.

    It'll help us to play somebody in a different uniform instead of dividing one team into two. When you get one lineup together, you have a good idea of what team you're going to have. In terms of wins and losses, it's going to be hard to tell.

    Even today with the rain we had last night, the field's playing 10 times better. We're just jelling. Our team is coming together. The defense will be OK if we keep water on the field and the hops true.

    We're going to go with what I hope to be our main lineup. The order may change a little bit, but we're going to put a combination of offense and defense out there and we're going to let it go.

    There were some goofy decisions that had to be made that wouldn't normally wouldn't have been made. Maybe I need to start doing some more of that stuff. We played every inning like it was the ninth inning.

    Louis is a good athlete with great baseball instincts. He takes charge on the field and will give us depth in the infield. He's a great defensive ballplayer who also handles the bat well.

    Our bullpen is still up in the air. We have to batten down the hatches a little bit.

    Coming out of there, that confidence has to be high as far as competing, now there is an element you worry about with learning how to win. That's probably what I'm concerned about, but I still believe that if we go out and play hard every inning of every game, the wins will come.

    It sure is disappointing because it's certainly something college kids look forward to.

    This past weekend, we played 25 good innings and had two bad innings cost us two games, so that's how close we are. At least we're condensing it to one inning. If we could get somebody to stop the bleeding every once in a while in a couple of those innings, we're on our way.

    We're going to solidify a lineup. There was a lot of things that went on last weekend. We just wanted to see what guys were made of. We realized that some of the freshmen weren't quite ready yet, and I think in the same aspect, we have some older guys that maybe started wondering where they stand with the team.

    It's been tough so far, but the weather is picking up. I'm very optimistic that we'll get this program going.

    He pitched his game. He's done that all year long.

    My expectation is to win every game. The sense of not winning now is over. Now is the time to win. We should go down there and beat all these teams.

    He's taken them under his wing and leading them and the freshmen understand him and respect him. Young kids are going to hit this stride and take them to the next level and we hope that's this weekend.

    That's what they're trying to do right now, show that it is worldwide.

    They're having their ups and downs. They're struggling at times. They're turning things over similar to what we did last year.

    It's very crucial, and we have to play well. We'll play well for four games and see what happens. I think we have a good chance of coming out of here with some wins and getting back in the pack.

    Hopefully we can get guys like that to the mound and keep them fresh and hopefully it gets us some hitters back on track.

    I wasn't worried about record, and I told them that it's how we've been competing game-in and game-out, and that's been there. We haven't made clutch hits. We haven't made clutch pitches, but that happens. Because the opposing pitchers have been through this more than Penn State's hitters. Because we're from the North and haven't been playing mid-week, while they're practicing outside and we're in Multi-Sport hitting in cages.

    They have their heads in the right places, they believe they can win this Big Ten and I can't say enough about them. They're ready to get after it.

    They're a tough team to start with. We're hoping we just compete. That's our goal compete for three games.

    We got impatient, we were undisciplined, we chased. But sometimes that type of pitcher makes you do that.

    Splits just keep us where we are and we can't do that where we are. We don't wanna stay there. We wanna move. I'm sure Indiana is saying the same thing. ... Every team in the Big Ten is going to say the same thing. That's the reality of it.

    Our pitching didn't hold guys down as far as getting other guys in that we wanted to. I planned on splitting the game evenly between some guys, but it didn't work out that way.

    Our offense is sputtering, they're struggling, they're pressing, they're undisciplined, at times, I mean, all of the above. It's not picking on any one excuse, it's a combination of everything. If it's not one thing, it's the other. And then you throw bad luck in there, too.

    You don't want to send up red flags, but it was time to. I want that same lineup. I know how important it is as a player just from my playing days and what is was like to be a hitting coach at other schools. How stability and consistency are so important. That's what you like, but there's a time to shake it up and move things around.

    It stinks that we won the first two and ended up with a split. I just feel like we had them right where we wanted them and we let them slip away with a split.

    It's growing on me at first I thought it was just a fad. It's kind of interesting. The guys that are playing in it see it as a competition, and they're playing to win.

    Jon is thrilled to be coming here to get a Penn State education, and we are just as excited. Jon is a quality lefty who has a 90 mph-plus fastball. He's a strikeout pitcher who has good control.

    It really meant a lot to me that he did that. I just want to put it in some of the older guys' hands. If he felt good and could put the ball in the gap, I want him to do that. Well, he didn't feel comfortable, and he took the bunt and sacrificed himself for the team.

    Another guy who will show what it means to be a Penn State student-athlete, Michael is a proven college hitter who should provide some power for us. He comes from a great academic school, and we'll look for him to provide some leadership as he will be replacing two seniors at third base.

    What Amato is going through is a lack of confidence. His stuff is there but we just have to work on getting that confidence back. He pitched outstanding in that last inning. He's our guy and we're going to stick with him.

    We set up a deal at Jack Russell Field. We told them what we wanted ... we wanted to play every day with one day off in the middle.

    We didn't anticipate the record we have after what we've played ...

    It's going to be different for us. It's going to be nice though.

    It was time to panic. It was time to shake things up. I hesitate to do that all year. I want our team and our lineup to be solid and know whose in front of them, behind them, have stability. It was just time.

    Execution and fundamentals are the key to winning games, and we did it down the stretch. It's a good win and it will be a good bus ride home.

    By far, by far. There is more talent on this team, and we're further ahead. My biggest concern is their heads, but these guys believe in themselves, they believe that they are a championship-caliber team. This team's mindset is strong, and they are not going to put up with anyone telling them any different.

    There was just a different tempo to the game today. It felt like our guys had confidence, and they had a plan and they stuck with it.

    He's making big league plays out there. He'll be drafted as a shortstop.

    They've been outdoors, they've played four games already against good competition. They're ahead of us, no doubt about it.

    John is a great athlete who has shown great improvement over the past season. He's got a great breaking ball and can put some good velocity on his pitches. He comes from a Penn State family, and has the work ethic to be successful in the classroom and on the field.

    We we're looking for the Diamond-Dry for a couple innings. We couldn't find it.

    Unless there is an injury somewhere along the line, our starting lineup will be set. Guys will settle in and not feel the pressure of having to get a hit to stay in the lineup the next day. We've been communicating all along, but there's still that edge of, 'Hey, I gotta get a couple hits here or I'm not going to play.' And it's not like that. We just said, 'Everybody win jobs,' and that's what they did.
