Life is a lot easier when you play badly and then all of a sudden you get in contention and win one. No one gets on your back. When you finish runner-up seven times, everyone is asking, 'Why aren't you winning' It's much more fun when you jump into a win out of the blue. It's a much tougher game when you play consistently well.
I haven't got a consistent swing. I haven't got a consistent anything.
It's a totally different scenario. We do our own thing. It's nice being your own boss.
I missed a couple of birdie chances on the last few holes which would have made it a good round. But it's not the end of the world.
The wind made the last couple of holes pretty tough. If there is no wind when I play tomorrow morning hopefully I can post a bit of a score.
Growing up in Ireland, you learn how to play the wind. Or if you don't, you don't play golf, one or the other. Yeah, I like the conditions here. I'm very comfortable here. I'd be happy to see a bit of wind this week.
Hopefully, I want to play a little better than I did today.
The U. S. players are ahead of us in the world rankings, they have major winners which is a significant factor, ... We do have a more balanced team in Europe for the first time. I think in the past we have tried to play five or six players against 12 U. S. players, whereas this time around I think we are going to try and play 12 against 12 which is a new experience.
I played better today, but what's been going wrong with my game affected my short game today a bit as well.
I don't make a two after an eight unless I'm doing OK. So I made a treble bogey. Big deal. Don't worry, my head's fine.
I know I've been inconsistent this year. Obviously, there's many reasons for that. But if I finish strong the next couple of months, it will be easy for me in my own mind to convince myself that it was a good year.
Tiger has won 10 majors, so maybe he can go home on a Sunday night.
Eventually he didn't finish off the match, really, and then I got a couple of breaks. It was more or less up to Vijay. I just hold on in there and really I really struggled with my shots today, worse than yesterday. I don't know what it's going to be like tomorrow.
It's not worth losing a friend over, but we had 15 very awkward holes after that,
I had one round there to win (the Honda Classic) and a decent week at Westchester, but that's all. I haven't really performed at all this year. It has been an interesting year and one I wouldn't mind seeing the back of.
The first couple of rounds are very important for me because I am a bit rusty. If I do struggle a bit it is going to be tough. The key is to not necessarily make a quick start, but not to make a slow start.
There's a lot of expectations with defending. Definitely, the easiest way to win an event is, without a doubt, to be playing well and to be under the radar.
I had hoped to build a buffer going into the last round but that was not to be, ... There is still a lot of hard work ahead, but I'm still happy to be right in front.
It's a funny week too. With three golf courses it's hard to prepare, so that leads to a certain bit of the unknown.
It can be quite a frustrating golf course. One of my strengths is to stay patient, and that's probably why I have performed well here in the past.
I was happy to finish strong. I didn't play well Thursday, so it's funny how things turned for me today.
