Mike Trapasso Quotes (46 Quotes)

Eli got the big two-out hit to tie the game and for a few innings he is the hero in the dugout. But the tough part of baseball is you are only remembered for what you did in your last at-bat or even your next at-bat.

We played just well enough to get beat. We gave up crooked numbers in two innings. We just didn't get it done today.

It's all about the nature of the sport. Baseball doesn't make money in college. There might be two or three baseball programs that break even.

Obviously they are a very good club. They are nationally ranked and have one the top two or three pitchers in the country.

I feel bad for (Landon) because he doesn't get the at-bats that he would've gotten. Outside of that, I don't worry about Harrington or any of our pitching.

That's why I told our guys be happy, but don't be satisfied. We showed we have plenty of things we need to improve on.

We had a little edge and were able to sustain it once we got the 5-1 lead. The way we've been playing the last couple weeks, we've been going into cruise control. But we were able to keep it going, putting up the seven runs.

That's the one fortunate thing. We're playing at their place and we're able to make it up.

We had a good approach and swung the bats well early in the game. I was concerned in the eighth and ninth when we got a runner to third with one out and couldn't get them in. You know those things will come back to haunt you, but it didn't tonight. This team (Fresno State) is very talented and every single guy is capable of hitting a home run here.

I'm not particularly happy with the way we're playing. We had five runs on 11 hits, but we left 12 on base. We have been in cruise control since Western Illinois. We are fortunate to be 6-2 over that stretch. I told our guys we're playing very mediocre baseball. It's going to catch up to us. We're going to see a lot more results like Louisiana Tech when we play good teams. We get a lead early then go into cruise control. We didn't get to 19-8 by going through the motions.

Matt is growing into a leader, working with the staff and pushing the tempo. If Esteban hits like he did the last month a year ago, he will be a good draft. We need him to get hot.

We had the mercy rule in effect for nine-inning games the whole series. Five games in four days, if either team's up by 10, why waste pitching for the next couple innings.

We needed Rich to throw that fastball down in the zone better when we have a lead like that late in the game.

Our fans will get to see another guy that's listed among the top few pitchers in college baseball that's draft-eligible. He's a guy who's supposed to have electric stuff.

When it comes to the finances of the budget that I'm given, and if I don't adhere to it, we make sure we have the resources to fundraising efforts to make up for any overages that may occur.

He just didn't make good pitches, plain and simple.

His key is getting strike one. If he's able to get ahead of a hitter, it really puts the hitter on the defensive. When he doesn't get ahead, sometimes he has to come in with his fastball, which frankly, is his third pitch.

I have to give credit to San Diego State. I felt they were a good offensive club.

Fish didn't have anything from the start, but it was the right move. If the same situation happens tomorrow, I'll do it again.

From this point on, and you can talk about taking one game at a time, but you can't hide from the fact that every weekend game we play carries added significance because they are league games. If we keep doing what we have been doing, we'll be OK.

I never like calling a game before the scheduled game time, but this was about as heavy a rain as I've seen here. We checked with the weatherman and Doppler radar and we would have needed 3 or 4 hours of sunlight for the field to be ready.

It was a case of us not showing up. I'll give credit to their pitcher, but we didn't show up as a team from the first pitch. We were lifeless. The better team by far was wearing gray today. The final score wasn't even that close a game. They believe that they're a good club. We played tonight like all we believe in is what we're reading.

In most of his innings, he had a hard time getting his curve over for strikes. There were couple innings when his changeup left him as well. You'll give up some hits if you're throwing only one pitch for strikes. But the one thing you'll get from him is a battle.

Este just takes a while to get going. We've seen that for two years now. He is a streak guy, but his streaks are long. He is really swinging the bat well now.

We were hitting balls right on the nose early on. It was those instances where you hit 'em right at guys. When you keep hitting balls as hard as we were, it's just a matter of time before they start falling (for hits).

While it's nice to get some national recognition, all that really recognizes is that we got off to a good start our first 14 games and nothing more. Our guys understand that. They're not going to be all that fired up about it.

I probably should have taken Steven out with Jones up there, but you try to get one more out with your best pitcher. That was my mistake.

Steven got ahead in the count and forced contact. Everything was good.

Landon knows his role and knows he is our catcher of the future. He is a confident kid. He has done a very good job as a freshman.

I thought Steven was a little empty. He was at 106 pitches and Frost was getting good swings off of him. Steven was getting a little tired and we had all the faith in Rich to get the job done.

Good players like Matt don't have two bad years in a row. He really put too much pressure on himself in his draft year.

It was evident in his first game that Darrell had no fear. He has the pitches that get you ground balls and strikeouts. His fastball command has improved. Now he is getting a strike on the first pitch most of the time. When he gets ahead, a batter is in trouble.

It will be nice for them to play in front of their hometown crowds, play in front of their parents.

When we're going good we tend to keep going back to the same place (in this case California Pizza Kitchen) every Friday.

I thought it was his best outing all year. He has his slider back and he hadn't had it for weeks. That made all the difference in the world for him.

He's been able to perform like we knew he was capable all along with an injury-free year. Knock on wood.

We will use as many players as possible. It is fun to play this game, especially with so many new guys. We need a dress rehearsal to make sure everyone knows the game-day routine.

Ian Harrington will start one game. After that, it is TBA. I haven't thought about it yet.

Robbie is playing with a sense of urgency, making things happen. That is very pleasant to see. You have to root for Robbie because of the injuries he has had the last two years.

I told them you have to keep an even keel. Let's go out and win tomorrow. We've got a lot more games left.

Darrell couldn't throw strikes during the fall of his freshman year. We work so much with our pitchers in the fall on fastball command and his fastball is his No. 3 pitch.

Steven was not good. He was up, and you combine that with a very good Arkansas club. You tip your hat to them.

We didn't make the pitches. We didn't make the plays and we didn't execute at the end. We had one outburst and that was great, but we just didn't get it done.

We are fortunate to have the return trip to Louisiana. It's not ideal, but it's better to play in sunny, dry weather rather than playing on the sponge we have.

Just tip your hat to those guys (and) come out and try to win again tomorrow.
