Matt Kiefer Quotes (24 Quotes)

He was the guy who gave me the opportunity to play here. Anytime I see him, it's awesome.

Any time you win the effort categories as far as getting more rebounds diving on the floor getting a loose basketball, then you have more possessions to get an opportunity to score more points. It's just something coach (Matt) Painter tried to instill in us since we started practicing. We got to get every loose ball.

I think that thought process will go through my mind whenever the season is over with, (then) I'll get to that. I'll have a lot of time on my hands without basketball, so I'll be able to reflect on that.

I'm just trying to play hard. I'm not quitting at all. Maybe if I can set an example for these younger guys about how to go about things, then hopefully that will rub off on them and I'll have set my mark on Purdue basketball for the upcoming years.

I'm not looking at it that way. Basically, I'm trying to look it as an opportunity to help all the young guys, everybody who doesn't have as much experience as I do. I'm just trying to look at it as an opportunity and help our team get better.

As the season wears on, your body starts to wear down more and more. It's just a matter of doing things off the court, making sure you eat right and get enough sleep.

From a win-loss standpoint it is because we put together two good games as far as playing hard and doing what coach Painter asks us to do and we come up short both games.

We need to focus and try and get off to a good start, then try and get the crowd out of the game. Right now, I think it's one of the biggest games we have, especially after Wednesday. We want to get a road win, and to go into IU would be huge for us if we could go in, work hard and get a win.

It's a great opportunity, to go on the road and play a good team in Michigan State. They've had a very good history over the past five years. If we listen to the coaches, hopefully we can stick in there, grind and get a victory.

I thought we did a good job of playing against the zone. We moved the ball really well and got the ball into position where we could score. They just didn't go in.

Every game, coach Painter wants us to win. So, just because it's IU, it's not going to be any different, I don't think as far as in terms of his nature, how he's going to coach, how he's going to motivate us, how he's going to prepare us for the game.

He draws up plays on the spur of the moment that we've never run. (If) he sees a person is going over the top of the screen or playing you this way then he'll counter that. He does a good job of on-the-spot coaching.

We just didn't come through as far as taking care of the basketball and rebounding. That was a big thing for us.

They were just doing a good job of being physical and chasing the rebounds and we weren't. They did a good job of playing hard and sticking to the game plan and throwing a lot of bodies at us.

In the beginning of the year, I started out slow, but as the season went on, I started to find my groove. Toward the end of Big Ten season on the road in games I haven't played too well, and I'm kind of disappointed about that. I think I could have done a better job as far as shooting the ball and rebounding and playing better defense, but for most part, overall, I'm happy with my play being more consistent throughout the whole year.

They do a good job of penetrating into the defense and kicking it back out for someone to hit a three. They are a good basketball team.

I was just being active. Coach Painter always says to chase rebounds. I'm not a real athletic jumper, I guess you would say. That's what I have to do, boxing out and chasing.

He tries to fulfill his role on the team and plays hard. He's a really good guy he really cares about everything as far as his teammates, the coaches and everyone around him.

My teammates did a good job as far as setting screens for me getting me open and finding me whenever I made a cut for the basket.

Marco did a good job when we double-teamed him as far as passing the ball out. And they passed the ball around until someone had an open shot and knocked it down.

Obviously the first game, they played well offensively and with Northwestern you have to make adjustments. Somewhere you have to pay attention to the scouting report and if we do that, we can shut them down.

I don't know what to say about that play. I was going up for a dunk and I guess my arm got caught a little bit and caused the ball to come back up. I guess it didn't go all the way through the net. It's just one of those weird plays that the basketball gods ... they didn't let the ball go through. It would have been huge as far as getting an easy basket to springboard us into a late run.

Gary is doing a good job. He is playing physical underneath, getting good looks at the basket and converting everything. He has been doing what we need for us to win.

Horner just went off and did a good job, he was on fire, and there was nothing you could do about it. It was just his night.
