    Obviously I've played a lot in this league and started a lot of games. But when I came here they made it clear what the situation would be. I understood that Rich would be the starter and I will be the guy that's there if something happens to Rich. That will be my approach.

    They were throwing basically every play from the middle of the first quarter (on). (The Chiefs) have upgraded their defense a lot. All I know is putting on that film, they are a lot better than they were last year.

    It was pretty awesome. If we get a one-on-one situation with him, we'll give him a shot. He made a great play and he showed what he can do.

    Obviously, it's going to hurt us. Ronald was going to be a big part of what we did this year, and it's unfortunate that he won't be around.

    I find that very funny because when I throw to him too much, like I did in the New England game, it's 'Oh, you're throwing to Randy too much,' ... And then when I don't throw to him enough 'Well, you're not throwing to Randy enough.' ... In my mind, I can't win that battle, so I'm not going to worry about it.

    He just seems so much more comfortable I was talking to him a little bit about that here in training camp. This being his second time around, he knows what to expect ... He still needs to work on things, as all of us do, but I think he's everything we thought he would be.

    It was hard to find a rhythm today. It comes down to execution and making plays and we didn't.

    The guy has worked his butt off to get back to where he was, and he was just now getting back to being 100 percent. It's just disappointing because he's a heck of a player, and you hate to see good guys like that and good players get injured.

    That's what Rich Gannon 's all about. After he got hurt, he was still in the meetings, he was there. His neck was hurting but he was still a part of it and really wanted us to be successful. That pretty much says it all about him. He's one of the smartest quarterbacks I've ever been around. ... I don't think there's anyone better than Rich Gannon . He showed that week in and week out the way he played, too. He was a tremendous competitor.

    Whatever the public perception may have been of Randy, I have nothing bad to say about the guy. He's come here, worked hard and shown that he'll do whatever it takes to learn this offense and to be the kind of receiver here like he was in Minnesota.

    I've always felt if I don't hurt myself, I can be successful. I'm proud of where I've come from. Proud of where I'm at, and proud of where I'm going.

    It's been a variety of things. Certainly, I take as much responsibility as anybody. It seems like it's been different things at different times, where the players get penalties or non-execution. Like I said, I'm not going to point fingers. I know that I didn't live up to the expectations I had for myself this season.

    I feel like we're growing as a team. I feel like we've got guys who didn't panic, who didn't go into crisis mode. We just knew we had to clear a few things up and we'd get a victory this weekend, and we did it.

    This is about as bitter a defeat as you could have.

    We've all got to be good at moving on in this business. I've moved on. Sure, I was disappointed with the way things went. But I came out here and shifted my thoughts and concentrated on doing well out here. That's all gone under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

    It's a testament to the organization and to Mr. Davis that they're willing to go out and do those kind of things and get guys like Randy in here, re-sign Jerry, getting LaMont. It's a great feeling for me. I'm excited about the year. I'm excited to work hard and just see how good we can be and how we can all put it together.

    They're a good team and you can't make mistakes against them, whether it's dropped passes or interceptions before the half or penalties that hurt us.

    I've definitely learned that you never believe everything that you read in the newspapers or see on TV, ... I mean, you've got to make your own kinds of opinions in this business.

    The devastation in New Orleans is so sad and is a reminder of what is really important in life, ... My heart goes out to the countless people struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
