Joe Gibbs Quotes (234 Quotes)

We'd like to see Patrick continue to make the real good plays he's made and eliminate the bad ones, ... We need to be efficient.

We're concerned there. We gave up five sacks. Two of them were a little situation where we didn't get the alignment the way we wanted it, so it was our fault. But at the same time, we scrambled out of there to save us a couple, too.

One thing about Patrick is he's a real good student. I think he's smart, and kind of knows when you put in the game plan that he's got a feeling for it.

He is explosive. He can really run and he covers a lot of ground. You see when he gets matched up covering people, like tight ends and running backs, he does a very good job.

Certainly I thought that was important for us. Particularly when you've got new receivers, you want to get in some kind of a groove there.

We wish the past two years could have been smoother.

That's never been done before in the NFL, so you'd have to say that this team is going to play a lot of close games, ... It's been phenomenal all the way across the board. They go after it super hard. Whether it's on offense, defense or special teams, they make key plays when they have to late in the game.

We kept Mark out as a precautionary measure, ... He looked good this morning. We don't anticipate any problems.

The contract I signed wasn't for three or four years. It was for five years.

No. I think I know what his feeling is and he knows ours. He's a very important guy and we've invested a lot in him. But we can say he's frustrated with the situation over the last couple years with us. We've had a good game plan talking things over and we're moving ahead with it and we'll see where it ends. I wouldn't have a guess if something is going to work out or not.

The problem with signing our guys right now, almost none of the agents want to sign right now. They are afraid now if they go out and do a deal, they are going to get criticized for it.

As long as he's not getting in trouble, let him go out and have fun.

He has fantastic long-ball, and ball reactions, ... Very few people can snatch a ball right out of the air like that quick. And then the other thing, he's got a great burst, and when you get him going downfield and put in the ball reaction, he can be running, I think, and doesn't even put his hands up until the last second because he has such confidence there in where the ball is. Even though he's a shorter receiver, I think he's very much a downfield threat because of that, and then, of course, he's got great speed.

The only way we are going to make the playoffs is by beating Philly. There is not a single person in this building who believes we can get in any other way.

Yes, I will send that in. I feel like that one was obvious.

He's kind of quiet. We probably dominate the conversation. We've got more stories.

I think in that game it was total domination all the way across the board. I don't know what else to say about it. Everybody who watched it would probably say the same thing. It can happen to anybody in this league, but I also think they're very, very good. We'll be a little nervous about playing them because they kind of overwhelmed us that first time.

I don't think it's best for the league and it doesn't make sense for the players or the league to not have a collective bargaining agreement. I don't feel confident I'm always worried.

He's been very, very competitive. Some people are born to be accountants and lawyers. Some are born to be quarterbacks. And he was. He's very tough. We gave him an award this week for being tough. He's a tremendous competitor.

We will miss him. He has been a real leader for us. I think he has had as good of a year as I remember a guard having. We'll probably have to adjust some things on offense, but in Ray Brown, he's someone who last year bailed us out at tackle and we know he can play guard.

We felt like Mohr was somebody we need to look at, ... He's got tons of experience and he's an excellent holder. . . . We're just trying to do the best we can to make sure we make the right selection there for who's going to get the job.

We appreciate Patrick's contributions during his time here with the Washington Redskins. Through this entire process we always wanted what was best for Patrick and in working with him we feel this is where he wants to be. We wish all the best to him and his family and his future with the New York Jets.

I think it's just a matter of getting back in there and letting him do a little bit of everything. I don't think we've decided on a specific role for him. Hopefully, he's going to be getting some major work for us and major playing time.

Everything is on the table. We didn't have the production we wanted late in the year. But we did make a big jump. It's a matter of evaluating everything and seeing the ways that we can help ourselves get more production. It's a little bit strategy, and it's certainly personnel.

I think NASCAR makes it pretty clear that they're not going to put up with any of that, ... I might be saying something different five weeks from now, but right now I'm not worried about that stuff.

If I had about 100 million, I could do that that's what he left out, ... He makes about 50 million a year, so if I could pop that, he might have a chance. You know you're in the wrong sport when both your drivers have Lear jets and helicopters, and I don't.

I'll worry about the pass routes, young man. You try and hold onto the ball a little more frequently.

I hate to kind of lay it on Danny, ... but it's Danny's deal, and I'm going to support him any way I can.

Mark just doesn't make mistakes. If you watch him, he's mistake-free,

If the Redskins have clearly defined one thing about themselves, it's that they are indeed tough. This is a team that, if nothing else, is bitterly difficult to beat. In that respect, their 3-1 record is undeniably well earned. We have a lot of fighters, ... It was a very hard-fought game. That's the best I can make of it -- and we came out on the short end.

Patten also is a valuable resource for players and coaches alike. Gibbs, a Hall of Fame coach with three Super Bowl wins, routinely asks him about how the Patriots -- winners of three of the last four Super Bowls -- operate, with questions about practice drills, training camp or anything else that comes up. He's very good about that, ... He's very sharp.

He's good at that, ... But I can tell. I'm around him a lot. I couldn't even explain it. But I can feel it. He definitely wants to produce. It's not like he's getting any younger. The time to do it is now.

I told Patrick that the decisions we've made, it should be pretty obvious, are based on the fact that we think a whole lot of him, ... We think he's got a tremendous future with us.

I don't think you rule anything out when you go into a draft, especially if you think there's someone there who you think you can go get. Would you be willing to trade or make a move I don't think we're afraid to do that--last year we did it. And I wouldn't rule something like that out.

We'll have to see how it develops in the days ahead. Mark tried to come back off of it, but couldn't.

But if they didn't think it was a joke, or if anybody took it the wrong way other than a joke, when you make a mistake like that, you've got to apologize. So I apologize to anybody that might have taken it the other way.

Maybe we just like winners. We hope some of that will carry over to the Redskins.

We're going to miss him terribly.

I couldn't see them overturning that, ... They called it, they reviewed it, and they reversed it. The way their team reacted, I thought it was a done deal. They didn't mention anything to me. They just reversed it.

I have some feelings about the offense, and I think everybody that watched us could probably draw some conclusions, too. But I think until the bullets start flying you're not going to really know. The proof is going to be how we play in the regular season, not the preseason.

We enjoyed having him here and everything. We just wish him the best now, ... Cut day is painful because you have a lot of real good guys there that have worked very hard and put everything they got into it. It's just the rules up here just kind of take care of all that.

I can definitely say that things did bounce our way at times. We were blessed tonight,

It was a big disappointment for us, ... We talked long and hard about it. It's been a real concern. It's a problem, and we've got to get it corrected.

It's something we're trying to gain information about and letting them talk and visit and seeing what situations may be out there. And we're doing the same thing. We'll see if there's a fit. It has to make sense for us and make sense for both sides.

Looking back to 5-6, we talked at that time that if we lost another game we'd be out. Trying to win five straight is a tough deal, but our guys seemed to understand what it would take. We went back to the basics.

When he played last year, personnel-wise we weren't as good as we are now.

Safety Sean Taylor will continue to be featured in the Redskins' goal line formations as a receiver, Gibbs said. He has great hands, ... I think he definitely could play receiver. We're trying to get him in a few situations where he can maybe make a play for us.

I tried to tell the players that you have to be realistic. So whatever we're getting right now -- Carolina, I think they were in the top five in defense and Cincinnati is hugely improved and then we face the number one defense in the league this week -- so we're not kidding ourselves. These guys are really good. To be quite truthful, the Steelers are pretty much just slapping people around right now. The first two games they were dominant on defense.

That's one of the great moments for me, ... I can tell you that.
