Jim Gilligan Quotes (15 Quotes)

Through our first seven batters and their first seven batters, the score was the same (0-0), but they (the Lions) were winning the game because they were having better at-bats. After that, I challenged our guys by telling them they had to make better swings on the ball. They made the necessary adjustments, and I'm proud of them for that.

Unless you're up there swinging the bat, it's difficult to tell exactly how tough a guy is, but he must've been really tough. He made a lot of good pitches today, and we didn't put a lot of good swings on the ball.

I'm a lucky guy. I just hope a little of tonight's luck will be residual tomorrow and Sunday.

He's a legitimate Friday night guy. We will have to play well to beat him. They have had a full year to recruit since they announced they were reviving the program, so they're already pretty well stocked with players.

Mac struggled. We were lucky to get the sixth inning from him. His pitch count was getting up there (he threw 130 pitches, including 36 in the first), so I wasn't going to let him go past six.

Once we get it all done, it will be better than it's ever been. Our baseball park and our baseball team are going to get better every single day... Right up to the end of the season, the field will get better.

This was just one game. We're not going to start pressing just because of one loss.

We hung in there and played good defense. Our pitchers did a great job. I thought we pitched really well all weekend.

The only run we gave up today came on a hit-and-run. I thought we got out of position too early. We should have made that play. We could have had a shutout today, and that would have given us three for the weekend.

It was a fun game to watch from an offensive standpoint. Jo Jo Haney had a big day both offensively and defensively, and his first hit was a clutch one when we really needed it.

We had a poor offensive night, and we had a poor pitching performance. On the positive side, though, we have (William) Delage going tomorrow. He's been a stopper for us all season, and now he's going to have to do it again.

He was nowhere near the glove all day long. He had nothing to offer right-handed hitters. Hopefully he learned a lesson today. I was really disappointed he didn't take advantage of the start.

Lambeth got a big-time home run, and Henderson swung the bat well tonight. That's the most confidence I've ever seen him have at the plate.

This was a shame because I really thought our pitchers did better than the score indicated. Cody did a good job. I don't know. But we'll get it turned around before long.

Steve had a really well-pitched game. He was hitting his spots much better than he did last Friday (in a no-decision in the Cards' 8-6 series-opening win over Nicholls State). I'm really proud of him.
