Jim Bolla Quotes (34 Quotes)

Early on we had no-help defense, in part because of their quickness and in part because of us not being in position. We did a much better job in the second half.

We want to attack the press with the idea of scoring, not just breaking it.

The good news is, someone is going to win.

I can't describe this game. I have no idea what was going on out there. There were times where we should have just handed them the ball, but it is a win for us.

We've been executing really well (the last five games). So hopefully we're getting things turned around at the right time. Like I told the kids, we're trying to peak for the tournament now.

Give a lot of credit to Boise State. They played extremely well, very tough, never gave up.

She got some really good passes. When we have her isolated, we have to be able to get the ball to her and we had some people give her some nice passes to put her in position to get some nice scores.

We need to start getting more physical with people. In both games, we had a significant size advantage on them, and our inside people couldn't take advantage of that.

The Bulldogs are probably the most athletic team in the conference. If they keep playing the way they did today, no one will touch them. They are way ahead of Louisiana Tech the way they are playing now.

We talked about this being the team that beat us in the tournament at practice yesterday. Hopefully we got that bad game out of our system for the year in the second Kent State game.

It's up to her now to hopefully finish this thing out and get back on track. And it's up to us now to make the adjustment team-wise.

Everybody is 0-0 going into this tournament. It's a one-game series now. This loss is not the end of the world. We did some things OK. We have some things that we need to work on, but that was a very good team. They are deservingly the WAC champions.

I'm getting questions from people all over the place on that. I would hope so. I think this team deserves it. I think we've got some quality wins over some good teams.

We are still trying to get the players to understand that they are not executing our offense the way we want. Because we still have a chance to win at the end, it is hard for them to understand this, but we are not there yet.

One of our goals was to keep them off the glass. Early in the game, they were getting some second chances and our key was to put a body on them, get the rebound, and get the ball down the court.

We've never made (playing on the road) a big deal, so it's never become an issue with the kids. There's no discussion about where we're playing. It's just a road game and we just go to practice and get ready to play.

It's a new season. We've got a good opportunity in front of us. But we came last year as a higher seed and we ended up getting beat. We don't want to have that be repeated again so we have to get back on track.

It was an ugly game. I wasn't happy with our performance in the first half, but it wasn't unexpected. Whenever this team has a layoff, we just don't play well early.

The last four minutes, we buckled down and played really good (man-to-man) defense, and we got some key buckets. A year ago we probably wouldn't have finished this game. Now we're finishing games.

It's a decision you don't want to have to make, but ... for the best interest of everybody involved it was probably the best decision.

We gift wrapped this game and they dropped it. We can't afford to play like this (tomorrow) or we'll lose by 40.

It's a quick turnaround for us playing on Wednesday (against Idaho). It's not the best situation, but fortunately Monday is a holiday, so we'll have time to rest up and get ready.

You hate to do this as a coach. But I felt it was absolutely necessary.

We need to make adjustments, and people need to pick up the slack. Tonight, we didn't get that done. We were just completely overwhelmed.

We did not dwell on it. We're 80 percent in practice. I think last Saturday was just one of those games.

I think our zone slowed them down, and allowed us to calm down. It gave our offense a little confidence because we were getting defensive stops. When we get stops, we get excited on offense.

Right now we're in position where we can make a significant move in the standings. So we just need to take care of our business, take care of the games we can control.

We can't control anything like that. A lot is going to depend on what happens with our RPI number and what happens with other teams.

You see the first five playing ... but the reason they're playing is the people in practice are pushing them hard. A lot of times it gets overlooked because all people see are points and rebounds on the stat sheet or in the newspaper. The practice players make us good.

There will come a time where we use too much energy coming back and we won't be able to finish.

Those were two big issues. We weren't in the right spots at the right time and that helped their defense. We need to use both sides of the floor and hopefully take advantage of a defensive lapse. This has happened before. We'll keep working on it.

This had the chance to be a trap game for us. I told the girls at halftime they needed to attack the glass, and we also switched to a man-to-man defense that was key as well.

We wanted to go to a smaller, quicker lineup to play man-to-man on defense and that got us back in the game.

No one got hurt. They got to run up and down the floor and have some fun. The players enjoyed getting dressed up with the costumes. It was a good way to kick off practice and then get serious on what we need to do.
