Jeffrey Loria Quotes (49 Quotes)

Unfortunately, here we are. Four years after purchasing the Marlins, with no new stadium and no sure prospects on the horizon for such a facility.

Jack has been great. A man who has been around 50 years is an asset.

We'll play wherever we have to play. I'd rather win it by one game than having it decided by one game.

I feel sad for the kid, but he's going to have to get himself together. I hope he does because he's got a great talent and a great ability. He has a gift, and it would be a shame to waste that gift.

I was thinking about the last four years and saying to myself, it would be nice if all those fans who were part of that parade route had said something to their elected officials about wanting to keep baseball here. I really believe this thing would have been done by now.

I'm not saying he won't manage anymore. When the day comes that Jack isn't managing, we'd love to have him as an adviser. We made that part of the understanding, that he'd be a major help in this franchise going forward. ... We all have tremendous respect for Jack and his opinions.

Let me say this about the stadium There has been very little progress towards a new stadium. And, I was thinking the other day, reflecting back on the last four years, if any of the thousands of fans -- good fans -- who were on that World Series parade route were in touch with their elected officials and expressed their desire to keep the team in South Florida, and keep it going, it probably would have been done by now. I'm very surprised that it hasn't been done by now, especially with our contribution. That's really all I want to say about it. We have options, and we're looking at all our options right now.

Our talks with San Antonio are serious. We like what we see and will continue this process. But like all processes it takes time, and we want to be thorough and deliberate.

We're here to play, we're here to play hard and we're here to win.

The commissioner took a lot of heat for his enthusiasm for the wild card. Turns out it's great for the game. We could end up with the fourth-best record and not make the playoffs. Hopefully our guys will do what they have to do.

He's a hard-nosed guy. When I watched him play, that never escaped me. He's focused. He's right there in the middle of things. He has an amazing ability to anticipate. When you can anticipate, you're a little bit ahead of the game as a baseball guy.

We weren't asking for a handout. We were willing to make the fourth-largest contribution ever to a ballpark.

There's been very little progress. It would be nice if all those fans who had maybe been part of that 2003 World Series parade route ... said something to their elected officials about their desire to keep baseball here.

If we had gone 11-6 over the last 17 games, we would have won 89-90 games. That's all it would have taken. But you know, baseball is a game of luck, health and bounces. It's hard to play when guys you are counted on are injured. More than half your bullpen had injuries. It was like all the injuries happened at once hit us.

I liked him very much when I met him and spent some time with him. He has to go through the system like everybody else. Hopefully he'll put his life together. We're praying for him.

I am extremely pleased to have Joe in our organization, and I look forward to his input as we start focusing on next year,

It's a killer. It's very disheartening to be in the situation we're in. But we've got no choice. We need to get this thing done, period -- one way or another. I'm not going to be the only one supporting this baseball team -- I mean carrying the team -- financially.

We're still looking at all our options, but our talks in San Antonio are serious. I really don't know how to answer that question. I can only tell you at this moment there is nothing going on in South Florida.

I've kind of re-energized them. I'm hoping to re-energize the mayor and city managers because we all have to get together to make this thing happen. It's not going to me. It's not going to be our guys. It's not going to be only the city. Everybody that wants baseball in South Florida has to put it all together.

If we get a new stadium, I'll be willing to spend the 48 million because I'll have the promise of greatly enhanced revenue on the horizon. But if we have no stadium in the foreseeable future, I'll have spent only 4 million and then I'll trade him.

Anyone who can create several hundred different batting stances during his career to get to a .267 batting average is destined to be a great manager,

It's special, no doubt about it. He's a special young man who has done a special accomplishment. It doesn't come every day.

There's no more time to fool around. The time for posturing is over.

You have this tough-guy persona, but I know you're scared. I know you're afraid.

People don't understand. At 4 o'clock, every afternoon, it rains. Or the threat of rain comes. It's very hard to go to a baseball game. It's very tough to convince fans to spend your evenings at the ballpark.

Joe was known as an intelligent player with great leadership skills and he will bring those traits to his new position. He is the right man to lead our team and I'm proud that he will start what will be a long, successful managerial career here in south Florida.

Winning that World Series was super special, and he's working hard to repeat it this year, to get us to the playoffs. He has success written on his forehead, and that's what he's about. It's written all over him. He's older, he's wiser, but he's still just as sharp as ever.

I have the privilege to work with the finest nucleus of baseball executives and I am confident that these extensions will allow us to see their tireless efforts result in winning additional championships together. These four men have my utmost respect, not only for their baseball knowledge, but also for their character and integrity.

Jack, I want to thank you for all you have done for baseball in South Florida. You've been a winner everywhere you've gone. I'm glad you decided to win a championship with us and all of South Florida. We all look forward to the next chapter. ... Jack's many years of front-office experience will complement what I consider to be one of the best baseball operations in all the game.

It'll get decided before that. But the way the season is going I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up in a three-way tie. Back and forth, back and forth. Baseball pingpong, it's called.

We feel it got away a little bit, but it was somewhat out of our control.

We're not going to sacrifice a roof, never. You can't play baseball in South Florida without a roof. You absolutely need to have a roof here. Every day at 4 o'clock it rains here. We all know that.

We've done great things in the last four years. We've done everything we've said we are going to do. And we said we needed a new baseball-only, roof-enclosed stadium.

We're close. We're trying to put it all together and sign a contract.

He's got them tough. We're going to win a lot of games. They came out fully prepared to play. This game was decided by one pitch in the dirt. Think about it.

We need to get that answered very soon. We need a solution. We can't keep playing outdoors. I keep hearing people say, 'We don't need a roof.' We do need a roof. Let me ask you a question. Would you be happy having your office outside on a lawn all day

I spent the whole night thinking of when I went into that building, what was I going to encounter. I think people are hopeful. There were some very sad faces in there, which I found very humbling.

I'm hoping to learn more about San Antonio, so I've invited the mayor, the county judge, some commissioners and the district attorney to come and join us here until we get to know each other and find out more about each other. This way I can learn more, so eventually we can make an intelligent decision.

It never happened. It's an invention of some irresponsible writer.

They're not going anywhere. I've said that 15 times.

I'm optimistic and hopeful that a new stadium will materialize. I'm basically an optimistic person. But some of that optimism disappeared in the last year.

You talk about last year, but in the end, last year wasn't all that good for us. We decided two years ago we had to take a good look at this team after the World Series. We added a little bit to it. But there was a strong feeling in the organization that we might have to rebuild this team. We finally bit the bullet and doing it is part of the whole process.

We made the decision that this is the right guy for the right time. The last one worked out beautifully for us. We had three winning seasons and a championship. Joe is going to lead this very young club as we go forward.
