Jack Roush Quotes (68 Quotes)

We've got a really nice group of cars that can go do pretty much on any given day what anybody can do in the business. If we don't put them in the top 10, it's going to be because I've done something to screw them up, and I sure don't want to face that.

It feels like Get Shorty, ... I can't do short jokes. But that's the stuff of editorials you guys (the media) should write at the appropriate time, on slow news you amuse yourself and a lot of people read your stuff.

Jack has no interest in Jamie McMurray getting out of his contract. I've got no interest in letting Kurt Busch out of his contract. And I certainly have no desire to go cause angst in my sponsors.

We've probably had more conversation in the last 10 days than we've had in the last 10 years, and I don't know if that's good or bad for the rest of the competition and for what Brian andor NASCAR would otherwise be trying to accomplish. But we certainly share an interest and a stake in the result of the question that's in front of us.

I said, 'Mike, right now there has been a lot of criticism on multi-team programs and it's growing and getting stronger and it's going to continue to do that,

The thing they did by picking on five rather than four is they singled me out. I'm the only guy with five viable teams and the worst of all scenarios (for NASCAR) is we put all five of them in the Chase,

I was not a fan of NASCAR's gear rule, but it has stopped us all from pushing the RPM envelope. We are really in a comfort zone now where we expect the engines to finish.

Mark Martin would be a great choice, a great result,

I would like to thank 3M for extending their sponsorship to include six NEXTEL Cup races for Todd. He has exceeded my expectations in the Busch Series so far this year and we are going to do everything we can to make his transition to NEXTEL Cup as smooth as possible. Having him compete in six races later this year will certainly help advance his learning curve.

I have no such intention (of letting him out of his deal). Kurt's been a challenge for everybody that watched a race, for everybody that's moved up close to him and paid attention. He's been a challenge to a lot of us, and for me that's going to end sooner or later.

I don't want Jamie McMurray to drive for us in 2006, because he's made a commitment to (Ganassi) the same way Kurt Busch has made one to me,

We've had some things that have struck here and there. If you look at the way this is going to shake out, the points starting the Chase were so close for all 10 competitors and the performance of the cars are so close that this issue is being resolved by who has trouble.

When I was 60 years old, I had my horrible airplane wreck and I hadn't won a championship yet and, as I came back, I was sure I never would,

I had all but written off our chances to get in three races ago. I was thinking 'building to next year' all the way. But they've got it turned around now. It's going to be a horse race.

If Roush Racing (or) if Mark Martin can't do his business at Kansas City or Charlotte or Atlanta, then we're in desperate trouble and definitely not on our game, ... What happened here is reflected in that the cars were well-driven, they were well-prepared by hardworking teams and the judgments that the crew chiefs made were excellent.

The thing I'm doing is building toward next year and the years that will follow. We've had a great run, even though this may not be a year of harvest for that.

As Roush and I sat in chairs and chatted outside the No. 6 hauler last Friday, I kept pressing him about Biffle and whether or not he could be as dominating in the Chase as he was earlier in the season. But instead of talking about the Biff and the No. 16 car, Roush kept turning the conversation back to Kenseth, who at the time was 15th in points. I really think Matt can still make the Chase, ... He's got a good car this weekend and his team is starting to come on.

He never raised his hand and said there wasn't on the table the things he need to do his business. He just needed the time for it to work out.

This is the third time this week you've tried to get my goat,

We're real excited about 2006. 2005 was by a large, large margin the best year I've ever had in this business. I wouldn't trade any of the years that preceded it.

If (a racer) gets a chance to race more, he'll do a better job for you. If they put themselves in a situation with good equipment, it doesn't worry me. What worries me is the off-the-track stuff. Carl Edwards is off jumping dirt bikes now. That worries me

So for the rest of the NASCAR field it's all about looking ahead to 2006. And more discussion of Brian France's puzzling proposal to limit the size of Cup operations If owning a NASCAR team is so great, then ask Rusty Wallace and some of these other guys why they're not jumping in the water, ... Because you have to be borderline insane to want to do this, given the financial risks involved.

Los Angeles is a huge market for us. California Speedway is important to NASCAR and to its sponsors. We need to be here. Shortly, we will build more of a market.

Fielding a third truck in Atlanta will enable David to run in front of his hometown crowd, friends and family. It will also gain him some additional seat time in preparation for his stint driving the No. 6. We're looking forward to getting David a jump start on his 2006 schedule.

The idea of being able to win all three of these races with three different drivers has just been fantastic. I'm gonna put some of this in the bank.

But Matt stuck with all of his guys and he stuck with the strategy that we had. He's got the maturity to know this is a cyclical business with ups and downs and he was not gonna give up on the good thing he thought he had going when it was down and he was gonna wait for it to turn and it has. He's been right.

Pat was the man of the hour today. Pat was able to put him in contention with two tires and had it where it would work. So the tires did a great job.

It is important we peak right. It is important to carry momentum into the chase,

There will be Busch programs that can step up to Cup. The economy has made it hard to generate the money and all the research has made it more sophisticated. Forty-three cars to me is a good number, but 33 would be good, too.

Right now we have a healthy series with Ford, Chrysler and General Motors involved. And it can be healthy with Toyota involved as well, as long as we don't wind up discouraging or rendering uncompetitive anybody else to the extent they will not be willing to make their investment for what they get.

I'm not sure what they're trying to do is legally right or is defensible in a court of law, but I want to be in this business, ... I don't want to jeopardize my sponsors and my drivers and our prospects in the near term, and too much distraction through an adjudication process would certainly not be in NASCAR's interest and would almost certainly not be in my interest and would very likely not have an outcome that I could be happy with.

I wouldn't bet against Carl Edwards. We think Carl can be as good in this business as anybody's been.

We don't have a realistic prospect of beating the 48 or the 20 with any of our cars, unless somebody has trouble, ... I expect them to run in the top five the rest of the way. We've had a great run.

The fact that we have all five of our drivers in a synchronized swimming kind of situation, where they're all at the top of their game at the same time, is pretty special.

I'm really excited about the prospect of taking this group of five to the final 10 races. I'm sure we've got some bad luck coming. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't have to give back some of the good luck.

The runaway championship, some speculate, may have contributed to the Chase for the Cup. It might have been a reason. But I don't know that it was me as an owner or Matt as a driver that precipitated that. I think we just were at a point in the advancement and development of the sport that it was time for a revision in the rules to make the end of the year more exciting much like championships in the other major sports.

But we've got a really nice group of cars that can go do pretty much do on any given day what anybody can do in the business. If we don't put them (all) in the top 10, it's going to be because I've done something to screw them up.

It's going to be a test of NASCAR's will and the drivers' patience. What they decide in the (scoring) tower could have a lot of bearing on the outcome of the race.

More and more, I give Mark Martin more credit for what we are and what we can do. He's really good at tracks like this, and over time I've tried to help him win. Mark's got his fingerprints over everything we do.

I'm going to say that Carl Edwards -- I predict -- is the driver of the decade for not only Roush Racing but for all of Nextel Cup racing, ... I cant imagine anybody coming into the business in their first full year and being able to win four times, and won in the Busch car for the first time this year.
