    Padilla has been very fluid with his motion, free and easy. He's had a pretty good face since he's been here. He knows some people in the organization and he likes the place and the weather. He has had a smile on his face, which is not always the case with him.

    You think about the years and the number of people who have played this game. When somebody says, '... the history of the game,' that's special. Somebody does not have to tell us to know we have an impressive group.

    He pitched well. R.A. had good command, and he threw 14 out of 21 first pitch strikes. That's impressive. He did his part.

    With arm strength and pitch counts, he did a lot of things to get to the next level. He got stronger as he went along today.

    Everything with Mike is about the team, ... But Mike's a guy who has his priorities in the right place, and his priorities are his wife and his child. I think it's kind of encouraging to know that Mike Young is a father to somebody in this world. I'd like to have that kid at my school, or coach him in baseball. I don't think I'll be around when he's ready to play.

    We tried everything. They had two groundballs that found holes and Cabrera centered a ball. It was a good win for them and a tough loss for us.

    They had seen him before and that's what makes it even more impressive. They obviously had a good idea what he was going to try to do.

    That's a sensitive area. We have to be sensitive to what's going on in the world of baseball.

    He can step back now and take the season as a whole and say 'This worked and this didn't'. This game is about wins, and he showed this year an ability to win at the major league level.

    He had a good night's sleep last night, unlike everybody else. He made a lot of friends tonight with teammates, getting them on and off the field.

    You have to realize that a lot of years have to pass before the track records and resumes make you feel real comfortable so it's not a given.


    I'm going to play everybody, but Mark has certainly earned that opportunity.
