    He ate up some important innings so we could save some guys that we didn't want to pitch. He did a good job in his Major League debut. I'm sure he had some anxiety out there, but he did a good job.

    Last season he had a lot of swelling, but there isn't any of that this time. We're going to have to see the medical reports and then figure out where we go from there.

    He's got some anxiety I'm sure, first game. I think he'll get better. He knows he has to be better. Hopefully, he'll get this one behind him and get his feet on the ground.

    It's tough on everybody. I've loved the guy for the past seven years. You don't want this to be a part of the business but like Daniels said, if we hadn't lost our No. 2 starter, we wouldn't have had to make that choice.

    We hope he can help us in the big leagues. It's very unconventional, but if you describe all the attributes that successful knuckleballers have up here, R.A. would fit into that. He's a strike-thrower, competitive, no-ego and he's willing to do what it takes.

    His velocity was down yesterday, but he didn't tell us anything was wrong until this morning, when he reported elbow soreness. Don't count Josh out yet. Hopefully, in a few days he'll be back with the club and this will all be over.

    With guys like Brad, they're going to trust their track record. They're going to get there if you stay with them.

    You know how there's talk every year about the winter meetings and then people come away disappointed because not much happened I think this is going to be the year to make all of those people happy.

    He adds another productive hitter, a guy who can play the game on both sides of the ball. He fits into our clubhouse like a glove, a very competitive baseball player.

    We talked last night when he got in and he said he was ready to go. He looked free and easy out there today. He still throws hard.

    It's the time of spring where guys are getting their arms in shape and their legs under them. We'd like to see them start showing what they're capable of doing in their next couple of outings.

    From a pitching standpoint, I'd like to see him get down there and get back on the horse, see him getting the ball. It's been unlike any year he has ever had in professional baseball. He's had to make a lot of decisions.

    He's not ready to retire, I tell you that. I can see it in his eyes and you can hear it in his voice. Whenever he decides enough is enough, there will be a place for him in this organization.

    It just hasn't carried over so far. It will be good for him to get consistent at-bats down there and get back to the form that we need him to be in, and he's capable of being in. There's not any doubt that if he gets it going like he's capable of, he could be back very soon.

    I've never seen the ball carry this time of year like it did tonight.
