He's had the fewest number of snaps overall when you look at his time here, and he's been that close all along. We feel like if he gets more snaps maybe he can do something with it. We'll see.

Really, the second quarter there, late in the second quarter was really the breaking point.

I remember the night we saw him in Columbia as a freshman and thinking to myself that he was going to be a handful for the league over the next four years. That definitely turned out to be the case. He just presents so many challenges to a defense with his size, his speed and his feel of the game. He is also a player who had the respect of people around the Big 12 for the way he conducted himself. He is a person that the Missouri program and fans can be proud of in a lot of ways.

He continues to amaze you in what he is able to do. The ball is a little bit slippery and the grass is wet, and people take it for granted that he's in there executing in a great way.

We're going to give Rhett Bomar a chance to start and see where he takes it. By no means am I sitting here saying that Paul Thompson is responsible for the way we played Saturday. That's not the case. We had a lot of guys, mostly older guys, play as poorly as I have seen them play. We feel Rhett deserves the same opportunity that Paul had.

I don't root for either team, but in the end, I have to be happy for Dan and the way he's building that program. They continue to make improvements. I'm sure this is a big step for them.

It kind of just typifies our whole year, having to scratch and claw through it all. It's not always easy. We were playing the number five or six team in the country and we knew it was going to be tough, so I'm proud of the way our guys did compete.

He has been in the way we work. I'm going to tell you there is not a guy who goes at it harder in the weight room in the summer and on the field. You watch him, the way he plays determined,

Defensively, it was kind of frustrating. I have to compliment their quarterback. He did such a good job. What an excellent competitor.

I thought the secondary played solid and good the entire day. The one deep wheel route we gave up on our boundary was somebody else outside of the secondary busting an assignment and not covering their guy. I thought the play was really a breaking point for us. I am not at all questioning the call, but we thought we had it, then we didn't, then they went down and got a field goal. Thinking we had the ball at the 30, and then not, that was a big swing.

Typical of our recent classes, this one is well-balanced.

We have speed, the ability to close, the ability to play in space. We get good pressure.

They outplayed us and outcoached us in most all areas, ... I felt we would be stronger and have a little more attitude than this. I told the players that just because you've done it before doesn't mean you're going to do it again. They may have tuned me out.

It's one thing to give up some plays and get beat when you're in position or if you execute properly and you're just not quite able to make the play. It's another when you put yourself out of position and allow someone to convert on you or make a big play just because of your own doings.

He'll get his share of carries, but we also hope that we can get him another five to 10 touches through the passing game with a little more space, as opposed to everybody sitting there lined up looking at him in the backfield. How that works out, we'll see.

This just kind of typifies our whole year. We have a great group of young guys that are capable of becoming very good. This team just continued to fight and make plays as it gained confidence down the stretch.

They're a very solid team in everything they do. Watching them against Minnesota, there were a good number of plays and series where they were really playing well and executing on both sides of the ball.

He was always the first guy Jason White would talk to when he came off the field. Josh has a really good way with those guys and I'm sure he'll step right in here tomorrow night and do the same thing.

You guys probably forgot how he played those first 12 games,

There's a very fine margin in winning and losing, ... The way we've played in so many games, the point production, the great defense -- there's a lot more to deal with that's positive than negative.

This is great, and as much as anything, it'll change the perception of our program. What you write about it may be a little bit different. Other than that, what we do in our program is going to matter more than anything.

When we did protect him, we didn't convert our opportunities.

This is a guy who, when he's healthy, has been phenomenal. Once he regained the strength in his ankle this year, he was right back to running with power and making the same kind of cuts before he was injured. He really came on once he was over the injury and he has been sensational in every game since.

If you can run the football, your opportunity to win increases big time, no matter who you're playing, and we're going to always try to, ... With the potential that we have in our backfield, everything should set up off of that.

Congratulations to Texas, they played an excellent football game. The team, coaches and players really executed well and made big plays. Our compliments go out to them. They are an excellent football team, which we knew coming in, and they showed it again today.

I have total confidence in Chuck, and I think his track record speaks for him. The proof is in what they've done.

UCLA has made improvements, and talent-wise they have always been good. They continue to have sound schemes and are disciplined.

We have not been good. The players haven't been good. You can say whatever you want. I have done a lousy job.

We came out of spring believing that they each had a scrimmage or two that they were good at and one or two that they made some mistakes at. Each of them did that and in our mind there was not a separation going into (Thursday's) practice. I feel it's unfortunate that so many of you in the media have ranked them and have put them in place so that players have to hear that the entire summer. It's really not fair.

It's easy to jump on one guy when something goes wrong. Hey, that's fine. We deserve the criticism, but track records over time also stand for something.

It matters, your game plan. But in the end, there are a lot of ways to play defense, and there are a lot of ways to run or throw the football. If you don't block anybody, I don't care what your grand scheme is, if that nose guard is in your backfield three yards, it doesn't (matter).

On offense, if youre going to allow people to penetrate and knock you back, you dont have much of a chance, ... I dont care what your schemes are or what your great pass patterns are if the guys that youre facing are hitting you or forcing the guy to throw or sacking him.

It's easy to jump on any one guy when something goes wrong.

I have no idea why Mark would have done that. I was as shocked as anybody in the stadium. How do you explain that I don't know. That goes back to Pop Warner football. Mark should have made a better decision. I'm not going to sit here and go any further in front of the whole media, but it's as bad a play as there is.
