    We sang our spacecraft to sleep today with a melody of digital ones and zeros. Stardust has performed flawlessly these last seven years and 2.88 billion miles, and deserves a rest for a while, like the rest of the team.


    When you give up four runs to the Yankees, and it's the third inning at 4-0, the thought crosses your mind that the game could be over. You tell yourself it's over or you try to fight back. I sat in the dugout after the third inning and I had thrown 66 pitches. I felt I had about 40 pitches left, and if I could put up three zeros, we'd still have a chance.


    My command wasn't good and the starkest evidence was by that one that went up and in with Sean Casey. I just wasn't happy with my command. I came out with three zeros, which is nice. But I have to sharpen everything up for next time. I'm already looking forward to that. It'll just take some hard work the next few days.


    Maybe some teams would have given up, but they fought and were able to get back in the game. It's really a lesson both ways. If you're down, you know there's always a chance until the clock reads triple zeros. If you're ahead, don't let up.

    Both guys pitched great. That's the type of game we all expected. Young gun Jake did what we needed, threw zeros up there, because Roger was on top of his game. That's a fun game to watch, the young guy going against one of the best.

    The bottom line is no one really wanted to play the game, ... It's the not the best thing to do in the middle of homestand to hop on a plane to Boston, but the fact is we had to play it and everyone showed up. And more than anybody today, our starting pitcher was phenomenal, and that's the story. He just set the tone, put up zeros and kicked everyone in gear.


    I wanted to make it stand up, keep throwing up zeros. We really needed this to get us started in the right direction, and to show those guys that we're going to be hanging around.

    In tournament time you have to be able to grind it out, and I thought we did that for most of the night. But they were just a little too quick, and we couldn't slow them down. We like to play 32 minutes of hard basketball and, unfortunately, when the clock hit three zeros we weren't on the right side of the scoreboard.



    This game wasn't about me, it is about us the entire team, the entire nation of Mexico. If we pitchers keep putting up zeros and we hit like we did tonight, I think we can win this tournament.

    He didn't crack. It was a good outing for him, not having his best stuff and the conditions as they were with the wind, and to keep making pitches through the four innings and put zeros on the board, it was a good outing.
