    Our students were outstanding, taking several first-, second- and third-place trophies. Participation at a tournament venue is important for the students. It build self-esteem and confidence.

    We won today, not only because of the first-, second- and third-place finishers but because of those who finished just out of the medals, in 11th, 12th, and 13th.

    The kids stepped up and wrestled well. We had a few letdowns on the third-place mat a little bit, but for the most part, we're pretty happy with the way the kids wrestled today.

    Early in the semifinal round, we lost a little bit of wind. When (eventual runner-up Shawn Beard of West pinned eventual third-place finisher) Kenny Palmer in a semifinal, that took a little wind out of our sails, but we still came back to put 13 guys in the final round. I told the guys they had to be aggressive (going into the final round), and I think we might have been a little too aggressive a couple times.


    I was pleased with our effort for three of the four games, but we weren't happy with the third-place finish. We had one really poor game against Santa Margarita, but on that night they played very well and we did not.

    We feel like we could be in third because we were third in indoors. We'll have to work to make sure we stay there. If people pay any attention, they realize our kids have come a long way and that's why we didn't get third, so the third-place vote is accurate.

    That was a tough loss for us to take, ... But our victory in the third-place game against New Trier put us in a very good position to be voted into a high seed going into the sectional seeding meeting (tonightWednesday).

    It's exciting for the kids to continue the tradition. Getting both teams back to state is exciting. We weren't as mentally sharp as we could have been Monday knowing going in that it was going to be us against us (third-place Pine Tree finished 53 shots behind the Gold squad). Today, the kids really came out and played awesome golf.
