    Our emphasis in practice right now is to simulate race speed as much as possible while incorporating adequate recovery in between sets. This is the stage of the season when attention to detail will separate the postseason swimmers from the rest of the field. At this point, our relays are still our best shot at making it out of district.


    I'm very familiar with the program and I know them all very well. They all have great ambition and they're all very motivated. Some of them are year-round swimmers, and that's definitely going to help things out quite a bit.

    This has been the opportunity of a lifetime, ... I have always wanted swimming to have an ambassador to travel throughout the United States in places like Hawaii to excite swimmers, parents and the community in general about the great sports that involve water. I have dedicated my life to promoting this, and I now have that opportunity. I have been blessed and I want to share my experiences with as many swimmers as possible.

    Don had this plan of relay teams being the base for the rest of the team. And it was very successful for Australia. I had to get over this idea that we would rely on a few good swimmers coming through every year. There had to be a string base to build from and we're starting to see that now.

    I want to be able to look back and say, 'I've done everything I can, and I was successful.' I don't want to look back and say I should have done this or that. I'd like to change things for the younger generation of swimmers coming along.


    I think we were just so overwhelmed with being here. It kind of took over our nerves. We're the first swimmers to make it to the state in our school's history. That's quite an accomplishment. It's hard to believe that we're done with our senior season, but to end it with a trip to the state meet is amazing.


    The Black River is normally exceptionally clear it's great for swimming and floating. Now, beyond the east fork, below the lower reservoir, it is very muddy. It has what we call a lot of turbidity. This is a concern not only for swimmers, but also for a lot of aquatic species.
