    Unfortunately, when you get to the on-ice part, you get a lot of accidents because people can't skate all that well. We've had some broken bones and some injuries there, because a lot of these people have never been on skates before.

    I played everything. I played lacrosse, baseball, hockey, soccer, track and field. I was a big believer that you played hockey in the winter and when the season was over you hung up your skates and you played something else.

    I took group lessons at a rink near my home. We first had to learn how to stand up on the ice wearing skates. Eventually we learned to move forward, but soon found out that it was not that easy to stop! So that was our next important lesson.
