lungs are tickle o' th' sere; and the lady shall say her mind
freely, or the blank verse shall halt fort.
I have lived long enough. My way of life is to fall into the sere, the yellow leaf, and that which should accompany old age, as honor, love, obedience, troops of friends I must not look to have.
In 1936, I first wrote science fiction. It was a long-winded attempt at writing an endless novel...which died. I remember one sentence, Whole forests stood sere and brown in midsummer.
It was a combination of a couple of Army regulations that dealt primarily with SERE (survival, evasion, resistance and escape) and joint publications that talked about CSAR (combat search and rescue),
