Quotes about santana (16 Quotes)

Santana, he sparked it, once he caught those two passes. That helped our confidence level. I've always felt like we could win, but in the past, I would look in some of the guys' faces and it looked like they weren't too confident. We've cleaned those guys out of here and we've got some guys who'll fight until the whistle blows. We feel like we can't be beat.

Things are working for us. Coach mixed it up Sunday. We knew early on we were pounding the ball in the running game, pounding the ball and then he threw deep to Santana Moss, and that caught everybody off-balance and we're all in the huddle like, 'Yes, perfect play-calling.' So as a team, everybody did what they had to do.

When you show you can hit long plays like that they can't come as fast at you. And obviously by them playing off Santana a little bit it helps, and he's got a chance to make a play before the rest of the cavalry gets there.

That's partly because the starting pitching has been much improved (17-9, 4.30 ERA) since the All-Star break. The most consistent pitcher of late has been lefthander Johan Santana, who was 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA since taking a permanent spot in the rotation on July 11. To help the Twins' other starters, who were frequently overthrowing, Anderson instructed them to throw only in the lower half of the strike zone during bullpen sessions between starts. He told them that he wants to see the catchers' mitts moving downward to receive every pitch during those workouts. If they're constantly throwing to the glove in the bullpen, ... then go into a game with the adrenaline pumping, everything they throw will go high in the strike zone.

Santana did what he does best, he's a good pitcher and we were waiting for him to come back out. But then he was finished, he was taken out. They decided to take him out, but he had control over the way he was pitching.

I mean, he's a little bit bigger, obviously, than Santana, so he's a little bit more physical. He had real good chemistry with the quarterback the year that he was our MVP, and I just think that's something that him and the quarterback have always had. They have just had that feel.

You never know what's going to happen sometimes, or what you think's going to happen never happens, or when you least expect it, the Santana record comes along and just blows up.

When you bring a guy in like Santana, you have to make sure he's taken care of and he's going to get the number of catches and balls that a guy that they brought in deserves, ... For him it was good and for me to come back to the situation I'm in, I'm not a featured guy, but I'm a piece of the puzzle in this offence and there's opportunity for me to make plays and help this team win.

So when you have all that attention focused on one guy, then the other guys have to step up around him and a day like Sunday when they're doing that to Moss, for me to come away with one catch is extremely frustrating. But a lot of things are out of my control. This is something we have to capitalize off of as an offense. If they're going to come in and take Santana away, then everybody around him has got to step up and get things done.

Houston has some of the best players coming out of the country, and they trade everyone. I don't know what's the reason to trade all those kids. Houston had Santana and Garcia and Abreu. They are pretty loaded.
