    The fundamentalists, by 'knowing' the answers before they start (examining evolution), and then forcing nature into the straitjacket of their discredited preconceptions, lie outside the domain of science-or of any honest intellectual inquiry.

    What I tried to do, as best I could, was keep a kind of balancing act in motion, ...     It's not a normal voice. It doesn't fit into people's preconceptions about what a woman's voice should sound like. My mom doesn't think I have an unusual voice, though. I'm sure it's helped me get some roles. But Chasing Amy, I almost didn't get. There was concern the voice would grate on some people - which some critics said it did.


    When we couldn't find the right person, we decided to abandon preconceptions and look at people we hadn't thought of. She came in and her very first audition was so wonderful, so magical. She had this sweetness and innocence, but also something sexy and a little dark.


    All I want is for people to listen to it with unbiased ears, and decide for themselves. I just don't want them to be dictated to by the media, or have preconceptions about it. If you like it, great. If you don't, fair enough.

    Specifically, we talked about making the character of the prince not so charming, at least in the beginning, and I'm playing around with the preconceptions attached to a character. That's really what intrigued me as well because I thought it would be fun to do it.
