Obviously, the law obliges me, because General Pinochet is a person older than 70 years, to request that medical examinations are performed to determine his mental faculties, ... This would be the first step forward.

Lucia Pinochet is no longer in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security. She is returning, this evening, to the country of her last departure.
This resolution is a joke, ... because the evidence shows that Pinochet is the author of the 57 homicides and 18 kidnappings and today they are looking for some way to protect him, to reduce the charges.
This is his Achilles heel, the big headache for Pinochet and his defence lawyers. Unlike the human-rights accusations where it has been tough to prove a link between Pinochet and the crimes of his regime, in this case the numbers don't lie and the case could move forward very quickly.
This disappoints me. Without even questioning him, Pinochet is being put on trial,
Dictators do not leave power voluntarily that was the case in Indonesia with Suharto, that was the case with Marcos in the Philippines, that was the case with Pinochet in Chile, and we need to be prepared to confirm the challenge.
The idea that such a brutal dictator as Pinochet should be claiming diplomatic immunity I think for most people in this country would be pretty gut-wrenching stuff,
The war was policy-making on the hoof. Others who know the prime minister well have shared with me that he has a limited sense of history and poor attention to detail. He and Bush do not come across as international statesmen. Rather, they appear as teenagers, caught up in a childlike excitement about being at the centre of power. Blair might need to be careful where he travels when he steps down as prime minister. After the Pinochet precedent, he might face prosecution in some countries for waging an illegal war.
This is a sad, sordid tale of money laundering involving Pinochet accounts at multiple financial institutions using alias names, offshore accounts and close associates.
The history of the U.S. role in bringing Pinochet to power is also one that needs to be fully aired, fully digested and then left as history so that we can move on as a country.
Unfortunately what we are seeing is an unceasing persecution against General Pinochet for events that occurred more than 30 years ago.
Most of the people that defend Pinochet are absolutely convinced that it was they or the enemies that had to be killed, and it was better to have the enemies tortured or imprisoned,
I never blamed Pinochet, or my torturers, or external circumstances.
The decision brings us one step closer to the day when Pinochet will have to answer to his victims,
Pinochet knew the (legal) issues existed and for me it would not be appropriate, that as a result of his difficulties, the country becomes involved and is affected internationally,
