    I was a goodie-good kid my parents both worked for the First Methodist Church in Lubbock. My father was the Activities Director, and my mother was the General Secretary of the church.So I grew up in this church environment, but at the same time I had these thoughts of rebellion.

    I went to Lubbock High School and graduated in 1967, The Summer of Love. I was a football player, actually and Freddie Akers was my football coach, who ended up coming to the University of Texas.



    We basically invaded Texas Tech and Lubbock for over two weeks. We came back multiple times and we had 60-plus people there. We were a raging pain in the rear end, and coach and his staff and the university and the city were unbelievable. If there had been issues, we never could've pulled it off.

    I am very excited to be included in the very first college baseball Hall of Fame class. For me to be honored with these coaches and players that I have grown to admire and respect is very special. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in Lubbock.
