Who I am gets in the way of people looking innocently at the parts I play.

The postmodern reply to the modern consists of recognizing that the past, since it cannot really be destroyed, because its destruction leads to silence, must be revisited but with irony, not innocently. I think of the postmodern attitude as that of a man who loves a very cultivated woman and knows he cannot say to her, ''I love you madly,'' because he knows that she knows (and that she knows that he knows) that these words have already been written by Barbara Cartland. Still, there is a solution. He can say, ''As Barbara Cartland would put it, I love you madly.''
I saw my maids today
Singing so innocently;
Their eyes with happiness were gay,
They looked at me so gently.
I had a late supper one evening with Frank and Treat Williams... Treat took us for a trip in his plane around the Manhattan skyline, an incredible, somehow touching sight. I wonder why... We passed so close to the World Trade Center buildings that we could see the diners innocently enjoying themselves in the restaurant. In the late-20th century, it's impossible not to see the whole great heart of the city as vulnerable, exposed to attack.
Its home
The voiceless lightning in these solitudes
Keeps innocently, and like vapor broods
Over the snow.
There are few ways in which a man can be more innocently employed than in getting money.
TOMB, n. The House of Indifference. Tombs are now by common consent invested with a certain sanctity, but when they have been long tenanted it is considered no sin to break them open and rifle them, the famous Egyptologist, Dr. Huggyns, explaining that a tomb may be innocently glened as soon as its occupant is done smellynge, the soul being then all exhaled. This reasonable view is now generally accepted by archaeologists, whereby the noble science of Curiosity has been greatly dignified.
He that loves a book will never want a faithful friend, a wholesome counselor, a cheerful companion, an effectual comforter. By study, by reading, by thinking, one may innocently divert and pleasantly entertain himself, as in all weathers, as in all fortunes.
Marijuana, we're concerned about because it is the most frequently used even though we're below the national average. It's being used by young children and it starts out innocently, and it becomes a gateway to more serious (drugs).
One may view the past record very innocently -- as mistakes made, sloppiness, management problems on the part of the company, ... Or one may look take it much differently, and see a more sinister trend.
Nay, but Jack, such eyes such eyes so innocently wild so bashfully irresolute Not a glance but speaks and kindles some thought of love Then, Jack, her cheeks her cheeks, Jack so deeply blushing at the insinuations of her tell-tale eyes Then, Jack, her lips O, Jack, lips smiling at their own discretion and, if not smiling, more sweetly pouting -- more lovely in sullenness Then, Jack, her neck O, Jack, Jack
and I innocently hit an electric commercial streak, writing some songs and making some music that was just an exploration of a particular moment in my creative path but struck a chord in the country part of the culture at the time. Unfortunately for me, it sent me into a bit of self-consciousness where I sort of abandoned the patience and started thinking, 'Oh, I've made money for these people, now I've got to make more money for them.' The funny thing about me is I was twisted enough that I didn't think about the money I was making for myself. I come from a lack of privilege, post-Depression era people, and we would never presume that we possessed the worthiness to strike it rich on our own. So it sent me into trying to write hits, and it's not my favorite time of my -- would you call it a legacy -- my career. That's the point where I got self-conscious, and self-consciousness is the enemy of good art. You've got to come from the innocent, subconsciously clear place.
Men are seldom more innocently employed than when they are honestly making money.
It started out a little innocently, a couple bad bounces here or there and then guys started losing their confidence, including myself and it just escalated to bigger and bigger things. And then we got to the end of the games and guys were nervous. When you're in those kinds of situations and you don't have the confidence to do the job, most of the time it's not going to turn out your way.
I was really just the tea boy to begin with, or the equivalent thereof, but I quickly announced, innocently but very ambitiously, that I wanted to be, I was going to be, a foreign correspondent.
If you would live innocently, seek solitude.
