Smiles are important social cues that may tell us whether or not someone is friendly, and eyes are also a traditional focus of attention.

Cultures contain many cues and inducements to dissuade the individual from approaching ultimate limits, in much the same way that a special warning strip of land around the edge of a baseball field lets a player know that he is about to run into a concrete wall when he is preoccupied with catching the ball. The wider that strip of land and the more sensitive the player is to the changing composition of the ground under his feet as he pursues the ball, the more effective the warning. Romanticizing or lionizing as individualistic those people who disregard social cues and inducements increases the danger of head-on collisions with inherent social limits. Decrying various forms of social disapproval is in effect narrowing the warning strip.
You know it's very difficult to be an actor, and to have people depending on you to say the right line, at the right time, and to not be able to hear your cues! I can't tell you how many times I would've had to have said What? if I didn't have my hearing aids. So my hearing aids are a life saver, and they allow me to practice my craft.
We do take these cues about how we look and use them to guide how we behave. This shows how easily we are able to adapt and apply the rules to a new look.
My worry about the New York Times is that it's got the only position as a national elitist general-interest paper. So the network news picks up its cues from the Times. And local papers do too. It has a huge influence. And we'd love to challenge it.
You are only actors on the stage before the footlights. The Director, who knows the Play, who assigns the roles, who gives the cues, who calls you in and puts you on is behind the curtain.
The game of golf would lose a great deal if croquet mallets and billiard cues were allowed on the putting green.
You'd go in, read the script once for timing and then you would sit around and play games. The sound effects people would come in and we would do a dress rehearsal so they could get the effects and the music cues in place. Then you would wait until you went on the air.
A lot of kids know the question. The key is trying to get the answer on as few cues as possible.
Before he came here, he couldn't really pay attention to commands. You know, like this, I'd say 'come here, Spencer,' and he couldn't do that. But they've really been working with him on verbal, being able to respond to verbal cues.
Most plays that are missed by the umpire are caused by the umpire not reading those cues early enough and making the proper adjustments.
As an actress, there's nothing worse than not knowing your cues.
Mr. Armstrong pleased most of the audience he has timing, charisma and plenty of eyeliner, and he's not afraid to sweat. The fans know their stadium cues as well as he does, and they yelled all they could. But what may have been a fond parody of rock excess started to turn into, well, a stadium concert, complete with a full-length version of Queen's We Are the Champions, ... No time for losers.
The pilot looked at his cues of attitude and speed and orientation and so on and responded as he would from the same cues in an airplane, but there was no way it flew the same. The simulators had showed us that.
I personally take cues directly from the script, then I like to surprise the other actors. But you must maintain control on a level and see how far you can go up, down or out emotionally. You have to balance the craft with spontaneity.
I don't control it at all. It's all up to the musicians in the group. They control it. They make all the cues, and they tell me what they want, and then I act like a mirroring device so that everyone can see what the cues are.
