However tortuously the snake moveth about,
It proceedeth straight enough unto its hole.
Awaken from the sleep of thoughtlessness;
For pleasant existence is every moment passing away!
Relentless death will not pass any man over-
Time by time, all creation will pass away!
The traveller, knowingly, throweth away his life,
Who ventureth into total darkness without a guide.
He misseth his footsteps, and staggereth in his gait,
Who, convicted of crime, before the Kazi proceedeth.
He rendereth the fire of Hell harmless, altogether,
From whose eyes the tears fall, at the dawn of day.
That existence, like as the wind, passeth away,
Which, more or less, passeth in misery and woe.
If resignation be shown unto the Divine decrees,
Verily, sorrow and grief will vanish from the heart.
Since thou hast flung, uselessly, the musk away,
What rigour bringest thou, the camphor upon?
He, who hath neither wealth nor possessions to care for,
Goeth about, everywhere, cheerful, and free from care.
Abandon not, O Khushal! His footmarks,
Though thy head, like that of the pen, should go.
