COME to the Tree of Life, come all,
Come at your kind Redeemer’s call,
Enjoy its fruits — in Christ believe —
And you shall grace and life receive —
It takes away the harshness quite,
The hunger keen, the painful bite,
The rankling wound, the curse of God,
Which from the fruit forbidden flow’d.
O come, and freely of it eat —
From heav’n our Father sent the treat —
‘Twill make us well — ’twill heal each sore,
Hunger assuage, and health restore.
Its fruits than manna sweeter are —
Its leaves are healing, large, and fair,
And neither dearth nor death e’er shall
The man, who eats those fruits, befall.
Christ, is the tree — O then draw near!
Life, is the fruit, its branches bear —
His words and doctrines, are the leaves,
Whence health each wounded soul receives.
Come all, that are with woes opprest,
Come to your sole Redeemer, Christ,
Come, grace, health, comfort, to receive,
Come all to him, that you may live!
To eat its fruits, come let us hie,
And to our wounds its leaves apply,
They’ll slake our thirst, our health restore,
And make us live forevermore.
