Almighty God, in heav’n so high,
Us, and these creatures sanctify —
These creatures, which thou, at our want,
To us, thy pastur’d sheep, dost grant!
And make us all confess, and know,
That ev’ry perfect gift below
Proceeds from thee, (for thou art good)
Even our drink, and daily food.
And teach us all to bless thy name,
And for thy gifts to laud the same;
Because thou dost thy servants bless,
More than they ever can express:
And, for thy best-beloved’s sake,
We our petitions humbly make,
That thou to ev’ry wretch in want
At least wou’dst bread and water grant :
And wou’dst both day and night bestow
Thy grace, that we may here below
Serve thee, ’till to thy courts we come,
Those seats of bliss, our future home!
Where meat and drink of richest taste,
For ever undiminish’d last,
Where thy elected sons ne’er know
Hunger, or thirst, or any woe!
