O Wash me in the Blood, the Jews erst spilt!
O wash me, Christ! from ev’ry conscious guilt!
O wash my mind from ev’ry thought obscene!
O wash me, from all foul pollutions, clean!
O wash my head and feet, and ev’ry part,
As thou didst wash the Twelve, and cleanse my heart!
Then wipe away my filth — and, to complete
Thy work — bestow on my the Paraclete!
Wash me in penitential tears, my King!
Wash me in Grace’s and in Peace’s spring!
Than lilies whiter, wash me in thy gore,
That I, in purity, may thee adore! —
