I always had my dreams and aspirations of competing in the Olympics, but as a kid you just do it because you love to skate.
I think it was actually a blessing in disguise that I come from Hawaii, where they just back up all their athletes no matter how foreign it may be to the state of Hawaii.
When I was 6 years old, I was watching Eric Heiden at the 1980 Olympics. My dad was watching it on TV and I just thought it looked really cool.
