    My brother Larry. He taught me how hard work and dedication to the game was the only way to make it. He's taken care of all my business activities for me and my family for many years, and I thank him for that.

    Ned has been trying to get me back for quite a few years and the time just hasn't been right for me personally. I've been trying to get the family out of the house and get the kids grown up and move on. I always assumed I would go back one day to Milwaukee in some capacity, and I was very fortunate that the time to come back is now with these really talented young players that we have and hopefully get to watch their progress.

    You know raising a family in the lifestyle of a professional athlete can be very difficult.

    And George Brett. I think most people know that George and I have become pretty good friends over the years.

    I was also very lucky to be a teammate of two of the greatest players to have ever played the game. I learned very early on by playing for Frank Robinson and with Henry Aaron that even the greatest players in the game were just one of the guys.

    You can't live in the past. You certainly want to remember it, but you can't live there. I'm looking forward to being a part of a new group. It's exciting. We've got some young talent and some veteran guys who have been around a bit. I think anything is possible with a team like this.

    I realize now what a great job my wife Michelle did, not only in raising our children, Melissa, Amy, Dustin, and Jenna, but in taking care of me.

    You know over 20 years I played for a number of managers and dozens of coaches. I don't know any of them that I didn't learn something from to help make me a better player.

    In the years we had some success around here, there was not an outcast on the team, and that's the way this club is. Every single guy is a friend of the other, and it's sure nice to see because that doesn't happen that often anymore.

    I was also lucky to play for an owner, Bud Selig, who truly cared about his players. He'd call me into his office once in a while when he knew things weren't going so well. And it's funny. Every time I left there I always felt like something good was about to happen.
