Those who own the country ought to govern it.

The issue that has evolved recently is, from a perimeter standpoint ... the attack of the teams against us has really gone after the fact that we're small at the one and the two. That's what I've noticed from watching the tape, what has really become clear.

It feels empty because it was an opportunity wasted for us.

Guys are comfortable with him. The trust in him is building. And the shots he missed in the first half, he's going to start to make. It's a building thing for him.

It wasn't that he had a bad attitude. He had no attitude. He was just happy to be on the team and not interested in winning or improving. He didn't understand how hard you had to work in practice at this level. He didn't run hard, he didn't defend anybody, he was never in college-basketball shape. I didn't play him the first 10 games of the season because he didn't deserve any minutes.

A thing is not the truth till it is so strongly believed in, that the believer is convinced that its existence does not depend upon him

My sense is (today) he'll be a lot better. He has some tightness in his left shoulder and he'll have to work through it. He'll be able to play.

That goes without saying. It looks good (to be at home for so long), but if you don't perform and get it done, it won't look as good.

We still have yet to fully adapt to playing without David Lucas. Many times when in doubt it was 'Throw the ball to David and get space.' We don't quite have that.

We played well enough to win. I though our guys played well. We just never quite got ahead.

He'll need some time to heal, and then he'll get back into things. There's no question he'll be behind, however. I feel really bad for Josh because he has worked so hard and he is so passionate about the game and his development.

He wants to suit up one more time, but we're five days from that. He still can't do anything ballistic. He doesn't do much with us but straight ahead shooting. He can't push off side to side or change direction. I don't see that happening in five days.

We've prepared ourselves, and we've made progress as a team through 11 games. We haven't played a team like that in respect to changing defenses all the time. To recognize defenses all the time and play a game with only eight turnovers, I thought we did a good job with our patience.

It's a good thing good for the guys to get some home games early. We'll want to make it an annual thing.

Shoot, he plays every position on the court. He's just a guy who hurts you in whatever position he plays no matter who guards him.

No power on earth has a right to take our property from us without our consent.

The fact that a man is to vote forces him to think. You may preach to a congregation by the year and not affect its thought because it is not called upon for definite action. But throw your subject into a campaign and it becomes a challenge.

You just can't say the top seeded people are going to win throughout this tournament. It hasn't happened through the conference season. UCLA is as vulnerable as anyone else, and that will make for an exciting Pac-10 Tournament.

The men and woman who make the best boon companions seem to have given up hope of doing something else... some defect of talent or opportunity has cut them off from their pet ambition and has thus left them with leisure to take an interest in their lives of others. Your ambition may be, it makes him keep his thoughts at home. But the heartbroken people -- if I may use the word in a mild, benevolent sense -- the people whose wills are subdued to fate, give us consolation, recognition, and welcome.

He has reaffirmed his commitment. There are some things Jason and I needed to address. Jason is back with the program.

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

We set up our schedule earlier in the year to travel and become more comfortable away from Gill Coliseum. Now we're comfortable in both places, home and away.

The average educated man in America has about as much knowledge of what a political idea is as he has of the principles of counterpoint. Each is a thing used in politics or music which those fellows who practice politics or music manipulate somehow. Show him one and he will deny that it is politics at all. It must be corrupt or he will not recognize it. He has only seen dried figs. He has only thought dried thoughts. A live thought or a real idea is against the rules of his mind.

There were definitely places where fouls could have been called, but UCLA did a nice job of not fouling on the shot. There may have been some bumps prior to, but for the most part they did a nice job of not fouling on the shot.

Winning is so hard - period. At this point, it doesn't really matter who you are playing. Every time we played Arizona maybe I thought about it more because of who it is. But now it's just an opponent.

I wouldn't consider it wasted. I feel empty because it was clearly an opportunity for us. And it's rife for all sorts of second-guessing. And I'm my own worst critic. It will be one those weekends.

I've seen since Pac-10 started a greater focus in practice toward the game plan, the scouting report. He's absorbing more. The more anybody invests into something with a commitment you don't accept failure as easy. You are better prepared to sustain effort and focus. It sure helps us when he plays like that. He's more difficult to deal with.

They were exceptional. I've never seen them shoot like that. We're the leading 3-point defense team in the Pac-10 and they shot us right out of the fight.

We are going to be very cautious to make sure when he comes back, it's 100 percent. The next time this happens, we may not get him back. His college career will end on the bench. When someone says he's ready, I would keep him out an extra week to make sure he's strong enough.

What Jordan does like any great point guard is the ability to have vision and control from sideline to sideline, as well as end line to end line. It's a talent that makes a good point guard a great point guard.

We've already felt the impact of one injury, so losing Nick is another significant blow. This isn't the way the season was supposed to be drawn up for two of our four seniors who have had such an impact on our program.

I haven't seen a line like that in a long time, with five assists and one turnover. I thought he did a good job. I thought he did an extremely credible job defensively. Derrick Low is a very good player, and he went after Brett. He got some buckets on him, but he was poised in terms of doing his job of running the team and getting back defending.

In all my years as a coach and an assistant coach in this league, I don't know that there's ever been more key players missing games than this year.

It's obvious that Lamar was our most valuable player. At Oregon State University at this particular time, if you lose your most valuable player it's hard.

If American politics does not look to you like a joke, a tragic dance if you have enough blindness left in you, on any plea, on any excuse, to vote for the Democratic Party or the Republican Party (for at present machine and party are one), or for any candidate who does not stand for a new era, then you yourself pass into the slide of the magic-lantern you are an exhibit, a quaint product, a curiosity of the American soil. You are part of the problem.

It would have been nice to go down and have the lead one time. That sometimes changes the mind-set - you look at it a little bit different. But we don't know what would have changed. Aaron made two great plays. He was definitely the star of the game.

They put the squeeze on us the second half. And for the first time since Northwestern State, five weeks ago, we hit a point where we cracked. When teams start throwing dunks down, there's a point there where they created a competitive edge.

The turnovers were a combination of Washington's defense and us. You've got to know where the traps, the danger zones are, and we didn't stay out of the traps.

A political organization is a transferable commodity. You could not find a better way of killing virtue than by packing it into one of these contraptions which some gang of thieves is sure to find useful.

Last year, we ran certain things and did some things, but many times it was when in doubt, throw the ball to David and just hit space. ... And we don't quite have that. In the last 15 seconds of a shot clock, we are nowhere near as efficient.

We're trying to find the right combination to make us comfortable. I want guys to be aggressive, but I want them to be smart in doing that. Just way too many turnovers.

We can be undersized and play. We do sacrifice some height and girth when we have to slide down with more lean guys. Where we are now, I'm going to try and get as much time as I can out of each starter.

If we hadn't beaten Cal and Arizona back-to-back you could sit and say this team never has demonstrated any ability to compete with guys at the top level programs. But we did.

Thursday's game was a difficult game to coach and endure. Today's was not. It was the best 40 minutes of basketball we've played since Washington State (on Jan. 21). There's an enthusiastic locker room that is excited about practicing on Monday. From those things, I'm pleased today.

Marcel getting into foul trouble early in the game hurt us. His ability to rebound is something that has made our defense better all year long.

I've got to give a lot of credit to (Oregon coach) Ernie Kent on that. He was really receptive to that, and the officials were also. ... I genuinely applaud that and appreciate it for Lamar.

As to the position that 'the people always mean well,' that they always mean to say and do what they believe to be right and just it may be popular, but it can not be true. The word people applies to all the individual inhabitants of a country.... That portion of them who individually mean well never was, nor until the millennium will be, considerable. Pure democracy, like pure rum, easily produces intoxication and with it a thousand pranks and fooleries. I do not expect mankind will, before the millennium, be what they ought to be and therefore, in my opinion, every political theory which does not regard them as being what they are, will prove abortive. Yet I wish to see all unjust and unnecessary discriminations everywhere abolished, and that the time may come when all our inhabitants of every color and discrimination shall be free and equal partakers of our political liberties.

It was a good effort and we moved the ball better than we have in a while, and so it's fun to get back on that side of it again. It was good to see guys make plays at the end of the game, and keep poised.

There has to be some development and growth there. When the point guards play well, then we are pretty good. We are hard to beat when the point guards play well.
