Jeff Capel Quotes (22 Quotes)

He's good. When you have a guy like that who is that good offensively, then compliment the fact that he has an ultimate green light, he is going to play every minute. There is no such thing as a bad shot for him (and) that makes guys like that even more difficult to guard.

That's the strength of their team - their post guys. Those guys are very, very physical. They post hard, they play hard. They do a great job of creating space and getting angles. We had that two years ago when we had Godwin. That's why we were so good. He was a load to guard down low, and he opened things up for our guards.

It would be good to get a road win. Most importantly, to me, is to perform well and go into the tournament feeling good about ourselves.

It was a youthful, stupid mistake. I was completely wrong.

Regardless of whether we develop something in the post, we're going to be a good team. We're going to be just fine. We're going to continue to get better as a basketball team, individually and collectively.

I know that this announcement in the college basketball world is shocking. But I know, and I have all the confidence, that it is the right decision. I know it's the right decision for me.

I am very excited about remaining at VCU. We have done so many great things and have built such a strong foundation with the help of all the VCU fans. It is truly an honor to be part of such a remarkable program.

They played harder than us. Actually, I thought they outplayed us. I'm not pleased with how we played and our effort.

We haven't rebounded well, with the exception of the first two games, all year. Guys have to make a conscious effort to get in there and be hungry for the basketball.

We haven't decided. We'll get together and talk and figure out a decision, whatever it is, that's best for everyone involved.

We came out and I thought we were ready to play. After that 17-3 lead, we made some substitutions and our energy level completely dropped. We were gambling too much defensively, which allowed them to get some easy baskets.

The name of the game in tournament play is survive and advance. It doesn't matter how you do it. We were very fortunate to win. William and Mary was great. I feel bad that they had to lose, but we were able to make some plays down the stretch.

In everything we do we're going to strive to be excellent, in the community, in the classroom and on the court. I really feel this is a place, the University of Oklahoma, where you can win the whole thing.

Our guys have to become a little bit more mature, a little more serious about things. We have to understand it's 40 minutes. It's not 32, it's not 35, it's not 28. It's 40 minutes, and we have to play that way the whole time.

Their record doesn't indicate it but they have talent. Those two guys that became eligible after first semester have had time to practice and become acclimated to what it's like to play in a game. We don't want them to get well against us.

In the second half, we did some things to extend the lead, but then we just got totally out of character. I thought we shot entirely too many 3-point shots. I give WM credit for a lot of that. They mixed up their defenses well.

We were able to make plays down the stretch. We showed our character and toughness.

I find it comical when people talk about them struggling. They're 13-4 and 6-1 - a lot of teams would like to struggle and be that. They're an outstanding basketball team.

Our full-court pressure bothered them. We didn't get many turnovers (WM had 10 for the game), but we contested most of their shots. We went away from the pressure at the start of the second half and then had to go back to it.

I thought Alexander Harper was tremendous for us. He made tough plays.

Any time you have a change like this this late in the year, it's tough. But we're going to survive it. We're going to survive it and we're going to come out a better program because of it. I'm a big believer you learn a lot through adversity. You learn a lot from everything. Everything's a chance to learn and get better.

I've never bought into the theory of you have to have a ton of experience to get it done.
