Bruce Weber Quotes on Home (16 Quotes)

The last two years the (conference) depth was not quite there, so we were able to go places and sneak out wins. I don't think you will this year. We had such an experienced team. Now it looks to me like everyone has experience. That's why you have that big difference in home wins and losses.

The first thing on the board was that we wanted this to be a statement game. Not just to put pressure on Ohio State but for the (NCAA) committee and national media. I'm not sure we're as good as last year, but we're a pretty good team and deserve a high seed to stay close to home.

The crowd gets you so riled up at home. It gets you through bad times, bad stretches. It intimidates the other team and freezes them. On the road, you don't have that.

This was a dress rehearsal for the NCAA. Next time we lose, we go home. So I think this was a good experience for our guys. At least, I hope it is.

It's over. I told them 'One, learn from it. It should hurt a little. If it doesn't, we're in trouble. Two, it's a clean slate. It's our fourth season. You did great in non-conference, 14-0, kicked some butt. Conference, you were close but no cigar you have no one to blame but yourselves (because of the home loss to Penn State). And now we laid an egg. You've got one more chance, and it's how you finish that everyone remembers.

They're hurt depth-wise. We're catching them --I don't know if it's a vulnerable time --but when there's probably some doubt in their mind. The home crowd might get them going. The key will be if we can get off to a good start and get them to doubt themselves a little bit.

We ran some plays, and we shouldn't have to run plays. I told them, 'You should be embarrassed. You should just be able to push it or run motion.' If we're running plays to survive at home, they should be disappointed, not me.

Of all the upsets in college basketball ... to me, that's the most alarming because of what Bo (Ryan) kind of stands for and the success they've had at home. Since he's been in the league, he's always won the games he's supposed to win.

Maybe it's an attention-getter. Maybe you realize that anything can happen. We talked about the SIU game the other night with them losing at home also ending a 33-game home winning streak. It's very disappointing. I don't know how they'll deal with it. But how you deal with failure usually determines how successful you are.

I think a lot of people thought we'd get to play closer to home. Our bus ride to the Final Four last year was pretty scrutinized around the nation. I'm not saying it had an effect on this year, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. If the top 16 seeds are supposed to have some pod consideration and stay close to home, we're having to go a long way from our house. I don't think the pod is working in that case.

I just hope we can get to 33. The Salukis keep winning so we have to keep on their tails. It's great for the program. James (Augustine) and Dee (Brown) have lost one home game. One of their goals is to stay undefeated at home.

I'd rather take a chance on defending it. See if they can make it at home and take your chances in overtime. On the road, it may be a different story.

You have to watch Terence Dials inside, but I suppose the No. 1 thing is not letting them go crazy from the 3-point line at home.

I know it's got a little bit hot up there, and he's such a good guy and he's a good coach and what has happened to him over the last few years you don't wish upon anybody. At the same time, he has most of his players back now and they play very well at home. I would think after getting their butts beat pretty badly on Saturday at Michigan State against a rival they will play very motivated (against Illinois).

I was just talking to another Big Ten coach on the phone about that today as well as some other coaching friends, and just about how fragile your team can be. You think about the ups and downs in our league. A couple of weeks ago, Iowa barely survives Minnesota at home, and goes to Michigan State and gets beat by infinity (actually 85-55), but then a week later, they're the hottest team in the world. Then the next game they lose on the road to Northwestern.

Purdue was coming off a bad loss and our kids just thought they were going to win at home.
