Scott Skiles Quotes (289 Quotes)

The conspiracy things I think that's all just made up. But I think the price of oil is simply supply and demand, has nothing to do with the government and big oil. Call me crazy. Maybe it's simplistic, but I think it's the best refs trying to do the best they can to call a tough game.

We know what we're facing now. We're going down there, and it's going to be some sort of onslaught early in the game. We'll do our best to try and weather it.

It was one of our best all-around efforts of the season. The guys were really in tune with the game plan. Ben made some big shots, but it was Andres who made the difference in the game.

The last two games have been very similar to a lot of wins we had last year where we're not playing our best but we keep battling, stay in the game and make the big plays in the end.

We have made it a point of emphasis all year. Our guys have to use better judgment about when to shoot (the ball) and when to drive and draw contact. There were some games when we were in the penalty (situation) for four or five minutes and still had not shot a free throw.

We feel like they are all must games now. We have to put together a string of wins, but that will be tough to do.

We try to keep it reasonable. It's not necessarily that we don't trust our guys. We don't trust other people. We want to keep our guys out of situations where something (negative) can happen. I sort of look at it that, if you want to come to South Beach and have some fun, you have the money to do it in the summertime. Now is not the time for that.

There are talented players over there, but from what I read, (McMillan) is still dealing with players showing up late. Those are things that are very difficult to deal with. I'm an outsider, but I think he has done a good job of it.

Anybody that's involved in the league in depth and watches us play knows that we have more things in our offense for Ben probably than any other team in the league has for any other player. It's normally the guys who aren't playing well that are making those kinds of comments. So I don't put much stock in that.

That made it interesting. They came out in the third quarter and started getting after us, and we didn't handle that really well. But we were able to make our free throws and take care of the ball well enough to get the win.

It's a 50-plus win team with two of the top 10 players in the league (O'Neal, Dwayne Wade). With Shaq, we'll try to collapse on him when he catches it and then make him play inside-out. With Dwayne, we'll just do our best to get help and make him play in a crowd.

We were probably one free throw away from winning the game. We weren't able to make it, and we weren't able to get (defensive) stops.

The problem is our backs are against the wall every game right now. Somehow we have to convince the guys that.

When you look at the tape, there are things we've consistently done this year. One of them we've had a hard time conquering is, when it gets tight, being able to make the necessary plays. We're trying to make things a point of emphasis. So we had a more than normal practice, we went hard, and we went long. At the same time, we're not trying to damage anyone. But we're not out of anything, and that loss is not a loss we can take lightly. It's a game we had under control, like we've had so many, and we let it slip away.

I thought overall we played better tonight. We have a lot of energy. We did a better than average job of following the game plan. We could have had the game in regulation. We just weren't able to get it.

We played hard for the most part. We had a lot of good stretches. Then it came down to the end, could we make plays, and we did.

That's what we need to be successful. When we have that balance and then Ben doing what he did, we're a pretty good team.

They literally complain about every call all night long. They are having a great year doing it. I'm not sure what that says.

I don't know how badly he was hurt. So no, I wasn't surprised.

It would be nice if we could play well and put somebody away. We were fortunate to get out of here with a win.

I guess the assumption I'll go under is that we'll start the same way we did (Saturday) night.

For whatever reason, we are not fighting back when other teams give us a blow.

He's bothered us in all areas. His speed has bothered us, he's made his open shots and we've given him too many free throws. He's always been one of the faster point guards. We've had Ben on him, and we've had trouble dealing with that speed.

Those are all John's decisions -- he's the boss. But we talk about it every day. I've yet to be saddled with a player without John asking me.

We had a better-than-average NBA effort. But that's not normally good enough for us to win.

It seems every time we play Boston, it's almost the same game. Usually, they'll lead for a little while, then somehow we'll get back into it. They all seem to go down to the end.

We had our chances. We just couldn't make enough shots at the end.

My opinion has always been that whoever the top guys are in the rankings -- provided they have the attempts -- should go. I had that opinion the whole time I played, and my opinion didn't mean anything. They've got to get some guys they think are sexy.

Ben got the ball, so we went to a high pick-and-roll setup. Mike made a good play.

We just have to watch him -- that's why he's taking days off of practice -- and make sure he's not overdoing it. But if he's able to play, we'll play him and worry about each game one by one. If he has to overplay tonight to win the game, that's what we'll have to do.

Antonio Davis can't help but be a good influence on the other guys and Jerome Williams hustles all the time. He gets up and down the floor.

I didn't see the replay yet, but I'm sure it was a good call.

When the time came to make plays, they made a flurry. That coupled with some very poor decisions that we made (and) in a matter of minutes the game was gone.

We haven't yet in either game played the kind of defense that we've played the whole year to get a gauge on how we can play against (Miami).

We lost Shawn Marion too many times. I know from experience, he's a very slippery player and he has a knack for finding the cracks in the defense. ... I'm going to look at video tape and find that we relaxed against him.

Jason Williams, sort of in a quiet manner, hurt us.

I just sprinkled the magic dust on them and they took off. I don't remember what I said.

It's still one of the worst in the league. I don't know where I'd rank it, but it's near the bottom. It's still pretty tight in there. Most of the places have a separate area for the coaches so we're not in the players' hair before the game. But this one doesn't.
