    There was one time the other day he threw a guy out at second it was the best I've seen him throw in two years. I also like the way he's swinging the bat with a little authority behind it.

    Things are gonna work out for him. Maybe he'll get a change of scenery where he can get some more playing time.

    I'm not going to play the guy if there's pain in there. He's got medical clearance, but I don't think it's fair to anybody.

    I liked Kendall tagging up and going to third. If you look at the linescore today, he's 0-for-4, but he opened the game by hustling and setting the tone.

    We did a nice job of keeping the score close enough to make a run at the end of the game.

    Joe's done a good job for us. At the same time, Rich being out has been costly. I don't think anyone can deny that.

    He has a good, live fastball, a changeup and a hard breaking ball.

    He swung the bat very well. The chances of him being in the lineup tomorrow are very high.

    Typically guys have been a little erratic with their command in their first appearances. After the first inning he got the ball down. He was free and easy, just tremendous.

    I would prefer that he play to see how he did. But if he comes up here I'm sure we'll be up here with him to see how he does. If playing in one of those games will jeopardize his health, then it's better that he not play.

    Our guys aren't going to give up. They're absolutely not going to give up.

    All I know is the coin flip is done in the commissioner's office and no one can hear it drop. I'd like someone to figure out the odds of losing nine straight coin flips ... I think it's one out of 512. That is impossible.

    But if playing is going to jeopardize his health, then he shouldn't be playing. Who knows We might get a glowing report from the medical people.

    That was a pretty big win, particularly when one of our main pitchers goes down in the middle of the game and they jump out to a big lead.

    He was overpowering with his fastball today. He has the ability to cruise around 92, 93 mph, then get it to 97 to finish off a hitter. He had great stuff.

    It'd be nice to be able to do that, but I don't know if we can do that, ... Mark Kotsay's done OK there ... so let's give him a game or two and let's see how he's swinging.

    I think he realizes what they are doing. I talked to hitting coach Gerald Perry and he thinks he's starting to come around. But I just thought it was good to give him the day off.

    He's been extremely impressive. He's got a bunch of weapons to get hitters out.

    Big night for Milton. I thought that first hit, he showed patience at the plate, then hit the ball the other way. The walk was a solid at-bat, and he kind of opened that inning up for us. It was a big night for him and for (Frank) Thomas. He gave us some breathing room.

    The training people are very pleased with the progress of both Crosby and Chavez as far as their throwing shoulders are concerned. Chavez has been throwing a lot, and says he feels great. Crosby felt good throwing. We're just going to take our time with that. We'll stretch them out a little farther.
