Because they are the Patriots. That's why (you don't count them out). Because it doesn't happen to them a lot, ... You don't win three Super Bowls in the last four years without overcoming some adversity and responding to the loss of key players. I would take exception to the thought that they are in trouble.

Mike doesn't miss games. He'll do whatever it takes to get ready to go.

We couldn't come up with a solid, solid answer, and I'm not really one to play for ties. ... If someone had said 'If you tie this game and win next week, you're in the playoffs,' play for a tie.

We hate to lose Jeff, but we're excited for his opportunity. I'm already working on a number of options to fill that spot.

It's nothing that seems serious at this time, ... We don't have to file anything officially with the league yet, so I'd say they're questionable, at the very best.

This team has confidence in Matt. Nobody loses faith in his ability to make plays.

He's a quarterback. If he feels like that, that's fine. As the head coach I'm not a guy who worries about thing like that. But I also didn't have to take 65 snaps from center with a crazed defense across the field. I had a jacket on he didn't.

I think Mike (Vick) looked OK today. I don't think he was 100 percent, but Mike is such a great competitor that if somebody challenges him, whether it's the media or a player from another team taking a shot at him like we had on the first drive (two roughing the passer penalties), I think that gets him going a little bit.

I will definitely hire a QB coach. I have talked to a number of possible candidates and will be bringing in people to interview starting next week.

He's been working real hard. Guys reach a point and they mature, or they reach a point where they're either going to get it done or they're not. It's his third year. He's figured out the league and what he needs to do to get his body ready.

He's 25. This is his second year in this system. I think it took (Philadelphia Eagles quarterback) Donovan (McNabb) five years in his system to really reach the heights that he reached last year. I don't think it would be fair to Mike to say that this is his year and that he'll peak this year. The guy is continuing to climb. He's a ways away from his potential, but he's pretty darn good.

I've got to believe Mike will make progress, ... We'll see. We should have a good feel Wednesday.

Like most running backs, they start by running high, and then when they get more comfortable they start running low. He's running with his pads low. He's seeing things well. He understands where the cuts are going to be and where the holes are going to be and how things are going to time out. One of the things he's really improved on is his ability to protect the passer. That was a weakness of T. J.'s last year. He's worked hard at it and it's something that he is good at. I know that he'll always be a good runner. He pounds people and he's fun to watch. He's the closer.

We're in a dogfight. But it's better than not being in a fight at this time of year. We just have to go out and do what we can to win some football games.

I think a lot of people are still narrow-minded when it comes to accepting alternate ways on how to play a position. We see that with Mike (Vick) all the time, obviously. People want him to be something he's not.

My gut feeling is that he'll be OK. Mike doesn't like to not practice. He doesn't like to not be part of the plan. If he's not ready, we go on.

Because Mike Vick told me to. He said 'Challenge it, we'll win it.' You listen to what No. 7 says.

It's hard on him. He's a competitor and he doesn't like to feel like he's letting his team or his teammates down. He does feel that way. I know he does. He's of strong faith, and I'm sure that's how he's getting through it. That's Jason. He's a pretty spiritual guy. He'll be back and he'll be strong. I just feel bad that people haven't gotten to see it yet like I got to see it for three or four years.

We simplified it a little bit and paid a little more attention to detail.

No excuses on our side. We have to play better. We have got to start fast. We dug a hole a little too deep for us to come out of.

His ribs are fine, but he's still having some minor headaches. They're going to get that further checked this afternoon, and hopefully he will be back out tomorrow.

His production really, really went down. I don't think that you just pin it on T. J., but there was a dramatic change. I spent time with him and Ollie (Wilson, the running backs coach) spent time with him and we talked about footwork. Or was it where he was lining up Was it where his body was leaning That's a great question that I don't have an answer for.

Our fans were tremendous last season. They were so supportive and such a big part of our success at home. I think that will be the case again this year. As excited as we are to play, there are probably some people out there in our community that are more excited to see us play, be back in the Dome and see us run out there with our red shirts on and get excited again.

No one wanted to see this. You don't want him to reach the end zone in your house.

Remember the first play of the game when he hit the guy on the sidelines kind of in the back Then their sideline was chipping at him, and that guy that was blocked was going after him, and trying to go after him. (DeAngelo) let him get in his kitchen a li

If you talk to Greg or Ed, there is something to that a little bit. Bill is known as a defensive-minded coach, but his influence on their offense is significant as well. So, yes, you get a little more juiced up for games like this. It's nice to have it at home. That is for sure. It will help us.

We don't expect him to miss more than just this game.

It was tough. He is our guy, he is our playmaker. You could really tell on that third-down snap that he wanted to go, but he couldn't go. That made it a little bit easier to make the decision to put Schaub in for that fourth-down play.

I don't know if you could ask a player or a coach with a family to abandon their family at a time like this for a football game, ... That doesn't make sense to me.

And not always guys who are household names, ... I mean, Mike Anderson, who would have thought when he joined the league that he would rush for as many yards as he has.

We would like to see Michael to continue to improve his consistency throwing the ball, and making good decisions on the move, which we think he has so far,

We're fortunate to come out on the winning side today. I'm proud of our football team. I told them that I love their fight. I love their resilience.

He's questionable. I think, knowing Pat, if he makes it through today and tomorrow and he doesn't have any residual effects with running and cutting, that we'll be able to get him going on a couple of plays Friday night.

When you're going against a good defense like Jacksonville has and you have some success like we did it gives you some confidence that you got things going a little bit we feel good coming out of that game.

I kept sitting in those meetings, saying, 'Where am I on this issue I don't know. I don't know.' Last year I knew exactly where I was on this rule. I thought it was a bunch of crap and it was killing the defense. Now, with our passing offense, I'm like, 'I like this. I like it a little better than I thought.'

It doesn't do you any good. It's over. You can send stuff in and it doesn't change the game. I am not sending anything in. It is done. I think the officials in this league, in my opinion, do an excellent job. We obviously had a disagreement on that play, but I felt they did a very good job. I just didn't agree with that call.

Quite frankly, early on in his career, if he had handled his relationships with the media better, it might have ended a little bit easier for him,

It always bothers me when they ignore Mike's mental grasp of this game and his ability to win football games when they characterize him as just an athletic guy who runs around and makes plays,

It is having the mindset that you are going to stick with it and wear people down a little bit at times and then pop one. That is just kind of what we do. We've done that for two years and everyone understands their role and their piece of the puzzle, and thus we get good execution in our run game.

We just love playing at home. We were talking about how sometimes on the road we come out a little flat and he said, 'You know, with our crowd, we could be asleep 30 seconds before we go on the field and because of the energy, we would still get pumped up.' So that's how our guys feel about playing at home.

I love Mike's passion. He gets up and head butts a linebacker. I would rather that that not happen, but I'm not going to tell him not to. I love the energy, the passion and the emotion as long as it doesn't go any further that. Mike's a fighter. He's a co

We struggled to stop the run. Matt Hasselbeck got into a rhythm. We were having trouble getting first downs and they really controlled the second quarter.

The instant we sat down together in my interview, I felt like there was a connection between us. Because of our backgrounds, I mean, we're like the same guy. We both lived and died with our father's successes as we grew up. And because our fathers' both had success, and then failures that really kind of crushed them at that time, we have a shared perspective. We connect at those levels.

Torry got him a couple of times, and he got Torry a couple of times. But he loved the matchup. That's one of the neat things about DeAngelo.

He was pretty emotional. We just thought it was best for him to stand and watch the game from the sidelines.

We'll recover as a football team and Ed will recover, but we will miss his presence,

We would like to see Mike continue to develop consistency throwing the ball, making good decisions on the move -- which we think he has so far -- and recognize the blitz a little bit better and get rid of it when he can, and that's something that Mike hasn't had a lot of experience at, but he's getting better at it. The guy's just a tremendous learner. Anything we ask him to do, he does. The next step in his progression is just continuing to learn what defenses are doing to attack us.

It was a good pickup for us. It's that time of year when we are heading down the stretch and we're looking for guys that can help us get where we want to get.

Sometimes things just don't work out. You change coaches, change schemes, there's other demands. There could be personality conflicts, production compared to salary. There are a lot of reasons. What I'm not going to say is it didn't work and say this guy

When you've got Ronnie and him out there, there's a real comfort zone because they're both so smart. They understand the game and they take care of the people around them. That's a real attribute you look for.
